Sachin=GOD Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Thanks for your valuable contribution to this thread. Now can you tell me the playing xi and if you play 7 batsman, what's yusufs role? Seeing the present condition of our bowling I would like to go with 5 bowlers and drop Yusuf to get in Ashwin or Nehra. But if we have to go with 7 batsmen then I'd like to drop Yusuf and have Raina in the team because he's a far better finisher and on Indian conditions he is more experienced and can be more lethal than Yusuf and is also far more reliable than Yusuf Pathan.
vvvslaxman Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Not comparing Kohli and Raina. Both are fabulous players. But playing in death overs and scoring is more difficult. I have said this many times. It is not easy for even the best of the best. Only select guys have the capacity to attack from the word go without any cluttered thinking. Yusuf can do. But problem he needs certain kind of deliveries. Kohli should not , must not be dropped. He is a key middle order player for us.
Ranjha Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 I will still get Yusuf in with Kohli out for next game. Raina comes good as I predicted.
fineleg Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Kohli out???? Kohli is in good form - you can't drop him. Yusuf is no where as complete a batsman like Kohli is.
spectre Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 What good form - like failing in 5 out of 7 matches. Kohli out???? Kohli is in good form - you can't drop him. Yusuf is no where as complete a batsman like Kohli is.
vvvslaxman Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 What good form - like failing in 5 out of 7 matches. Despite he got 22 only that was an important partnership. Yusuf is a hit or miss. That was a full toss that he got out to. Till that time he was absolutely comfortable against both pace and spin. I
Show_stopper Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 I got flamed the other day for suggesting Kohli has been scoring easy runs compared to raina whose been performing a finisher's rlole so consistently for 3years!! Well guess who helped us win the QF?

It will be a match decided by big hitters.. Pak will befielding a lot of spinners and Razzaq would bowl medium pacers.. A scenario for Pathan to make more difference than Kohli can.. , it is horses for courses.. And Kohli should go and Raina has to come before Dhoni and Pathan as 7..

Well guess who helped us win the QF? You need both. Yusuf came into picture because of his surprising performance in SA. Both Raina and Kohli are far better than Yusuf. Yusuf has a strike rate of 180 or something an average 180 for the world cup. He hardly finishes his overs. He is nowhere close to the fielding ability of Raina or Kohli.
spectre Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 He got the best place to bat in his career. Nice and easy. Now coming into good form in this WC, he messed it up. Two innings lower down the order, he was pathetic. Our top four should be getting most of the runs. He is looking the odd one out at the moment. Dhoni can do the same job which Kohli does, nothing special in his performances so far. Despite he got 22 only that was an important partnership. Yusuf is a hit or miss. Sachin=GOD Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Absolutely no need to get in Yusuf in place of Kohli.
yoda Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 We are ok without Yousuf if none of our 5 bowlers go for a pasting. Let's say one of them is taken to the cleaners early, who are our part timers? Sachin and Kohli?

He has won us matches from 10/2 , 20 odd for 3... so you need such players. Only in the last match we dramatically colllapsed. He is the most solid looking player against all types of bowling, spin, pace, bouncers after Tendulkar. It would be fool hardy to run him down .

Show_stopper Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 But I repeat my earlier arguement from another thread....the question is whether Kohli offers anything more than our top #3 already do? Clearly he isn't suited to play anywhere below that. he has got ALL his runs at #3. Whenever he has played in the past one of Sehwag,Sachin or Gauti were injured/opted out( hence he got to play at #3). Now with all 3 playing clearly there is no place for him before #4 slot. And its showing in his performances. Because he has a certain way of playing that is unconcerned with the parameter of required runrate which makes him unsuitable to the middle order.

Against Pakistan, Yusuf should play.. We don't need a grafter against Pakis..Since Raina is back in form, we can use him higher up the order (before Dhoni or No.4 ) We need someone to deal in killer blows. Yusuf should be there..
spectre Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Offcourse Tendulkar gets the best position to bat. Same goes with any top-3 batsman in ODIs. They get the PPs to score runs, play the new hard ball and gets time to settle down and play long innings. And at most times, dont have to pressure to go all guns blazing in the end, throw their bats around for the team, or be under big pressure while chasing targets. So Tendulkar comes at a much more easier position? You cannot say that.. He has won us matches from 10/2 ' date=' 20 odd for 3... so you need such players.
