vvvslaxman Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Yup' date=' I would love to see him as a back-up wicket keeper to Dhoni. He has improved his game a lot and would be an ideal player to have down the order.[/quote'] He is very good when we chase big totals. Kohli, Gauti, Dhoni, Yuvi, Yusuf, Uthappa all 6 are chasing specialists.

Somehow we need to find decent fast bowlers as Zaheer will last more than 2 years - already he breaks down every other series. I wish BCCI had taken better care of the likes of Ishant Sharma, RP Singh, Irfan Pathan.
Switchblade Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 He should play against the Saffers and Windies against Windies he might be a certainty coz the match is in Chennai and his knowledge of local conditions
pensionplan Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Oh well they are playing the wrong spinners. Ashwin and Ojha(moot now since he is not even in the 15) in place of HS and Chawla would have made a winning difference yesterday for India.
Ranjha Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 lol ashwin better than bhajji already?:haha: hahaha this forum never ceases to amaze me:hysterical::hysterical:
Ranjha Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Ashwin should play only if we use an extra bowler. Otherwise the team is good for now.I just hope Yusuf is not wasted at 7..He is a huge hitter of the ball if he gets in.
riwi999 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Why can Ashwin not replace Chawla? Can we depend on Chawla bowling 60 deliveries without bowling 30-40 hit-me ones? Ashwin was the best bowler on display in IPL. I know we disparage IPL but it is high-pressure and any bowler who can hold his own in the IPL deserves credit. Chawla's control is extremely suspect and IMO we cannot afford a bowler who is so erratic to be playing in crucial World Cup games for us.

I would have agree with you in a knee-jerk reaction like I HAD YESTERDAY but thinking sensibly, no Ashwin cant replace a TRADITIONAL Leg spinner when we already have a offie in a side. Anyone can get hit when people are slogging and boundaries are small. Lets not get carried away. Lets try this combination for more matches and see what happens.
Ranjha Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Bhajji and Chawla will be a handful. We need just good wickets and not flat wickets which I am sure will happen now for sure. Lets keep the same combo for the practise games of worldcup before the worldcup really starts on march 23.
daryl1985 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I don't understand why we need a leg spinner in the side. Chawla is a good prospect but i feel that Ashwin deserves to be in the starting XI ahead of him. Ashwin is pretty economical, can bowl well in the PP and has an effective weapon in the carrom ball. Chawla seemed unnerved by the occasion the other day and bowled a load of half trackers. I feel Ashwin has the better temperament and is worth a go in the starting XI. If our bowlers continue to bowl this badly in the next couple of matches i would say that we may as well put Sreesanth into the starting XI as he is a genuine wicket taking option and if he makes an early break through he can be a real trump card. We missed Raina in the slog overs the other day but there is no room for him in the side.

pinkfreud Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I think we should try the 3 spinners combo and see how it works out in one of our games against Ireland and Netherlands. Instead of depending too much on our part time spinners, we should opt for another specialist and drop Yuvi. Ashwin has got his head on his shoulders and is really effective in the powerplay phase. Yuvraj played well in the England match but Pathan is needed because he is finisher like Kieron Pollard, and Yuvraj isn't.
Sid Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I simply cant understand this,a bowler on which Dhoni depends on and backs fully when playing in IPL,just goes out of favour iwhen it comes to playing for India.Variation this man possess will be a novelty factor for the foreign teams and he can be a x-factor for us,a much needed wicket taker. But one thing he needs to work on is his fielding,he is a poor fielder.

Perhaps N Srinivasan should intervene by abusing his obvious clout and ensure that Ashwin gets a spot in the playing XI :cantstop:
Ultimate_Game Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Surely it's time for Ashwin On a pitch which is spinning a lot and every bowler including Yuvraj and Yusuf Pathan is making it tough for the batsman Chawla has been taken to cleaners by Ireland!!! The guy has no control over where he's bowling and is all over the place. It's either short, too full, down the leg side for a wide and if he manages to get in the right place once every 3 overs he goes up in appeal for nothing! I have had enough of Chawla and it's time for Ashwin to get a game. We have seen enough of Chawla and he's at best a practice bowler to provide practice to batsmen before facing Tahir for the SA game - that's the only role I can see for Chawla in the near future. As I type, Chawla has conceded nearly 60 runs to Ireland on a turning track in 8 overs and that too without taking a wicket!!! :omg:
achilles Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Yeah, guess Ashwin would walk in to the team, conditions forbid. Can't believe Chawla is the same guy who absolutely killed the Aussies.
someone Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Pretty knee jerk reaction. Both Ashwin and Chawla are not great players and have not a lot of experience. You lot make it sound that Ashwin is the next Murali. So next match, Ashwin plays bad, back to Chawla??
Ultimate_Game Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Yeah' date=' guess Ashwin would walk in to the team, conditions forbid. Can't believe Chawla is the same guy who absolutely killed the Aussies.[/quote'] You gotta remember that was a practice game with absolutely no pressure and secondly we played 6 specialist bowlers in the game - 3 fast bowlers and 3 spinners (Ashwin included) so Chawla was never under the pump. And as we chat, Yuvraj has 3/18 from 7 overs and on the same pitch Chawla 0/56 off 8!!! Guess who's the specialist spinner :--D
King Tendulkar Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Unleash ashwin for q/finals. Dont let other teams have a look at him.

Guess the people suggesting Yuvraj be dropped for Raina must be at worst muttering under their breaths, and at best, quietly appreciating Yuvi's bowling
