But whats worse is to see the Chawla being picked over him only because he is a leggie and provides variety. while quite clearly, Ashwin is a way better bowler to deserve his place as the second spinner. Got great control and variety, is economical and a wicket-taker too, not tht bad with the bat either. Hope that the Captain will pick him whenever India plays 2 spinners the next time.

Harbhajan may not be the best spinner in the world but surely no argument he is best in India. It is these kind of hype which then leads to you people say Ashwin is crap, why was he selected after few bad matches.

Ashwin hasn't done 1/10 of the things Bhaj has for this country. And Chawla must be picked ahead of Ashwin. There is place for just one Off-Spinner and Chawla gives us the much-needed variation in the attack. Ashwin will have to wait.

The top order will not fire in every match and somewhere down the line, India has to chase down a huge total, something like 300 + and wickets will fall when they try to score runs quickly. We need someone like Pathan lower down the order as he is a game changer. He can hit sixes off spinners with ease and bring the asking rate down in a few overs. There is nobody like him in our lineup and perhaps even in the world, with the exception of Pollard. If someone has to be replaced, it has to be Kohli. There are other batsman who can play like him.

There are other batsman who can play like him. if our bowling continues in this manner then we won't have to chase "just" 300+ in any match, it will be more like 370+ :giggle: We just have to go with 5 specialist bowlers IMO. Please name just 1 Indian batsman who has scored as many runs or scored as consistantly as Kohli in ODIs in the last 18 months. He is in outstanding form and should, and will, not be dropped.

He brought back India from an almost lost cause to a winning position singlehandedly.

Ashwin a junior bowler is not used for striking, but containing and that's why his stats looks better in comparison. He gets wickets more because the batsman is forcing the play and loses wicket while doing it.
Ultimate_Game Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Ashwin deserves to be in the team as Harbhajan and Ashwin are different kinds of off-spinners. Harbhajan is more traditional with loop and spin, whereas Ashwin generally relies on cramping the batsman and restricting them to take wickets. Ashwin can also bowl during the power plays and has a great carrom ball to keep the batsmen honest and should be a much better option than a 3rd pacer or Chawla.

He does have little bit of variations. Yes sure he will also go for runs. But he usually takes atleast 2 wickets. His carrom ball is not easy to pick for some batsmen. He has atleast a surprise element that can come handy. And also he is not a poor batsman. He can play useful knocks down the order. Only downside is he is not a good fielder like Chawla.

He has improved his game a lot and would be an ideal player to have down the order.
