Got to feel for Ashwin

Pretty knee jerk reaction. Both Ashwin and Chawla are not great players and have not a lot of experience. You lot make it sound that Ashwin is the next Murali. So next match, Ashwin plays bad, back to Chawla??
I don't know whether he is next Murali or not. But Chawla is our Bryce Mcgain.

But what if Ashwin doesnt do well? Should we bring back Chawla? Or go for 3 seamers. We really are out of options here :dontknow:
Give Ashwin continous chances he will not disappoint

3+1 or 3+2 on flat pitches (depending upon the opposition, form, etc), 2+2 on turning tracks (our PT spinners also come into play) :winky:

Yeah. Lets pick Ashwin. 2 full-time offies. 1 part-timer offie in Yusuf. 1 part-timer offie in Sehwag who opens the batting but can't bowl because of injury trouble and 1 part-timer offie whose warming the benches coz the #2 batsman in the world has unfairly superseded him.... and voila, variation galore. Sachin can't bowl and Yuvraj is all the variation we have, apart from carrom-ball Ashwin. Congrats Piyush Chawla for ruining it for yourself and all of us. And now look at how Ashwin makes you wish you should be consistent. After today, there is no doubt Ashwin should be playing. But the balance that MS talked about while picking Piyush has been reduced to a joke. Only if PC had bowled a bit better today. He doesn't really have a case now.

Agreed ! All I can think of is that Ashwin probably doesn't know much Hindi and Dhoni usually talks to his players in Hindi . Lets hope Dhoni picks Ashwin for the next match and stops giving chances to that loser Chawla !
So Ashwin wasn't picked because he doesn't know Hindi? C'mon man. Thats ludicrous.

Chawla's problem is lack of speed variation. He can turn a mile still batsmen can tonk him around because he bowls at a predictable speed. WHenever he tries the faster one invariably it looks as slow as his regular once only it becomes a juicy half tracker. Teams will start targetting him. He will serve more pies.

What about Ashwin? He is a wicket to wicket bowler and primarly not a great turner of the ball. I fail to see how he will differ from Harbhajan other than the height factor. Therefore, I certainty think that Chawla has a lot to do in this tournament and can be more match winner/turner than Chawla.

Who said he can't turn the ball. His carrom ball turns miles on occasions. Ashwin has excellent control. That is more important. Half of chawla's deliveries are half trackers.

Difference is he tries to get wickets and hence flights the ball

yup.. Harbhajan hardly tosses up. If someone hits him for a 4 early.. that is it he will start darting more and more.

Every bowler tries to get wickets, but they have different methods, same try to build pressure and wait for the batsman to make mistakes, this is where Ashwin and Bhaji belong. Nothing wrong but both would be similar if played together for my liking.
