Feed Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 More... Tendulkar cleared to play after scan on knee Mon, 21 Feb 2011 India's key opening batsman Sachin Tendulkar has undergone an MRI scan on his left knee but he should be fit for their next World Cup game, the team's manager said on Monday. Tendulkar, the biggest scorer in the history of the game, stayed behind in Mumbai for the scan on Sunday when the rest of the squad flew to Bangalore for their game with England next Sunday (Feb. 27). The 37-year old batsman underwent an MRI scan on Sunday night at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital after he felt pain in his left knee. "It's an old injury. It was just a niggle. It's nothing to worry about. The (MRI) report is all clear," Indian team manager Ranjib Biswal told Reuters. The master batsman will join the rest of the Indian squad in Bangalore on Monday. Three more one-day hundreds in the World Cup climaxing in his native Mumbai on April 2 would make him the only batsman to total 100 centuries in both tests and ODIs. India won their first match in Dhaka on Saturday, beating Bangladesh by 87 runs. Tendulkar was run out for 28. Tendulkar became the most capped one-day player in cricket in Saturday's win with his 445th appearance but a mix-up with match-winner Virender Sehwag lost him the chance to join the run feast on a placid track against a weak attack. India eventually made 370 for four. He is the leading scoring one-day and test batsman and ranked by most experts among the top players of any era.

They began the tournament with a comprehensive win against Bangladesh.

Ultimate_Game Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 How many of our players are carrying "niggles"? Nehra is not fit, Tendulkar has his knee problem, Sehwag has shoulder injury and apparently bad back, Zaheer has a minor groin strain and Sreesanth has mental sprain.

Even though I support Sreesanth, I must say that whoever named him 'Sreesanth' had a sense of humor..... he's anything but 'Shant':--D
Cricketics Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Shastri suggests Sehwag will bowl Just now heard Ravi saying that Sehwag's shoulder looks okay and he will bowl. Not even might. He will he said. Shastri seems to be pretty close to the team. I remember couple of years back during tour to Bangladesh, he became an acting coach/manager too. I think it's fair to agree to his words than someone else like Gavaskar. I hope Sehwag bowls though. I think after Bhajji, he is certainly our best spinner in the team.
Sachinism Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Hmmm Shastri spilling team secrets :hmmm:
hari504504 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Scare tactics..don't think India willl take a chance on its trump card in this WC.. he would/should stick to batting alone instead of chancing his shoulders trying to bowl a few. I blv that an injury to Sehwag would terminally dent our WC hope..

But i wouldnt be worried about sehwag because only needs his top notch hand-eye coordination!

Ultimate_Game Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 The worst thing is that Dhoni keeps on spouting stuff regarding "niggles" and "resting injured players". Come on folks! We have seen the same thing happen in the last 2 T20 wrld cups and even now the team management and BCCI haven't learnt their lessons. If they have so many "niggles" before the touney even started what the hell are these players in the team for? If a player is not fully fit don't select the player - it's as simple as that. I would rather have a team of fully fit and commited individuals (a la 2007 T20) and don't want to listen to injury related excuses. I am sure we have enough talent to come up with a squad of 15 fully fit and "niggle-free" players.

Look at ugly bellies of Yuvi, raina and Nohit....
Ram Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Doubt it. Viru made a special mention of the team physio/fitness trainer in the post-match presentation, for helping him get fit for the B’desh opener. His fitness may be a lot more suspect/dodgy than we have been made aware of. They probably wouldn’t take a chance with him. Plus, he hasn’t bowled in ODIs in a while now, with the team choosing to go with Jadeja before and now Yusuf. Yuvraj is always a solid 6+ overs part-timer, while Dhoni has turned to Raina, even Rohit to slot in a few extra overs.
kabira Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 He is trying to scare English, so that English think about him as a spin bowler as well..
Feed Posted February 23, 2011 Author Posted February 23, 2011 Light practice for the Indian team - Focus on batting More.. Tendulkar back but only on the sidelines HT Correspondent, Hindustan Times Bangalore, February 22, 2011 A hobbled India got down to their first practice session after winning the opening World Cup match against Bangladesh on Saturday. All eyes were on Sachin Tendulkar when the Indian team trouped into the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The team's most precious player was making his first pu blic appearance after undergoing a precautionary MRI scan on his knee in Mumbai on Monday. Tendulkar came, he saw, but did not train with the rest of the team. He was on the sidelines when his teammates warmed up with a round of football at the main stadium and then spent time at the gym when they had nets at the National Cricket Academy complex. Team manager Ranjib Biswal informed later that there was nothing to worry about Tendulkar, and that he was just taking rest. NEHRA REHAB Ashish Nehra was also in focus, having missed the Bangladesh match with a sore back. Like Tendulkar, the left-arm pacer too skipped football and nets and worked out at the gym instead. About Nehra, Biswal said: “He has a minor niggle and we are working on his rehabilitation. Both Tendulkar and Nehra should be okay before the next match (against England on Sunday).†Virender Sehwag, who didn't take any further part in the Bangladesh match after scoring 175 in the first half, didn't come for practice. Sehwag was limping and needed a runner towards the end of his brilliant innings. Also absent were fast bowler Sreesanth and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Biswal said there was nothing to worry about the trio. “They didn't come because this was an optional practice session,†he said. BATTING FOCUS Gautam Gambhir, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli batted properly at the nets, mostly against local bowlers. Coach GaryKirsten gave throw-downs to Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan. While Harbhajan was drawn forward by some full-length deliveries, Zaheer was pushed back as Kirsten banged them in short. The session lasted for close to three hours.
