Cricket-Bangladesh fans throw stones at West Indies team bus

Great gesture. It's really sad that fans target cricketers to take out their frustrations. Anyone who has played any sport knows that the team or individual involved is the most gutted after a poor performance. To have to deal with pressures like this makes it even more challenging.

guys please don't judge us all based on 4-5 peoples action. I urge you to take a look here. I see that I cant post links or message until I have few posts but I really need get this link across to you guys so you all know that we don't support this kind of incident nor we ever will I broke the link up in peices I hope the mods won't mind. Sorry in advance banglacricket com/alochona/showthread.php?t=36216 go into the last couple pages and you will see pictures of fans that went to the WI hotel with flowers and cards asking for forgiveness. We managed to do some damage control even our own cricket board couldn't do that. We are passionate about our cricket and I know I will continue to support my team even if they were to get demoted down to the associate level. Those few that took part in this incident are not real BD fans.

Yes, that was a nice gesture. What I can't understand for some time now, is why BD fans have such unrealistic expectations from their rather ordinary-looking Team ??
I don't think its unrealistic to expect an win against WI. They are closest to us on the ranking table even though they don't say too much, but when we are playing in our backyard its not unrealistic for fans to expect us to win against them. Our goal from the beginning was 3 win- Ireland, WI and Netherlands. That was our way into the quarterfinal assuming a lot of other things go our way. That's why there was so much hype about this game from our side. But at the end the day its just a game, the sooner everyone realizes that the better it is. But I'm still not giving up. I still believe in my team. I will yell at them, get mad scream and shout and what not, but at the end of the day who ever's in the playing 11 I will support them no matter what. Even if they get bundle out for 58 run against England I will still believe in them.

Good gesture.. Hope the Dhaka Flower vendors don't try to see a business opportunity there and start pelting stones themselves whenever Bangladesh loses...and open their flower vending branches near team hotels for quick delivery of flower bouquets..:winky:

Good post. I appreciate your sentiments and understand your pain. A few idiots certainly do not define a nation. Though it was a very ugly incident, it certainly must not be used to generalize. And yes, it was a nice gesture to send flowers and apology, but the good deeds get lost, the bad ones stay in memory. And yes, welcome to ICF.

OK, so you are also one of the BD fans who blindly believe in their team, no matter what ! I have no problem with that, but what you must realize is that not all the BD fans are as well-behaved and self-controlled like you ! So, blindly believing in an ordinary,below-average team which WILL be thrashed sooner or later by the big teams is bound to cause problems with the less tolerant fans...... I mean, not everyone likes to be brought down to Earth with a THUD ! So, believe in your Team and support them by all means, but don't be too stunned by the odd thrashing that is sure to come your way. Hope you get my drift.

Guys please do not live in gaga land. I appreciate your passion but you need a reality check. We have not seen a fully fit first WI team play in last 2 years. Even this team has players not present. Bangladesh has a long way to go.

Guys lets not bash Bangladesh team for their poor performance. I am really glad that despite of their cricketing standards, they have a such huge passionate fans which is even rare in Australia. Bengali people are very nice and peace loving people, only for 1-2 culprits we cannot blame the whole nation. Really appreciate Bangla fans gesture ! NOW, where is Gayle's tweet ?? Cant he even acknowledge this ?? And regarding Bangladeshi fans high ambitions, i will quote: “Set your goals high, and don't stop till you get there.†- Bo Jackson GO BANGLADESH ! WE ARE WITH YOU.

But it's always helpful to be a little bit realistic as well. The goals or objectives should follow the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timebound) principle else it doesn't help much. Right now whatever goals B'desh are setting for themselves (i.e. going deep into the tournament) they definitely are not Attainable.

Like I have said many a times, majority of sub continent team followers are emotional. Some show their displeasure/happiness on a forum, some direct it towards work :winky:, some by getting a bit aggressive, some by pelting stones, some by staging a protest, some by burning effigy and so forth. There's no way sub continent considers cricket as just a sport, it is more like way of life. When there's so much emotion involved these things are bound to happen. Just imagine Pakistan losing to India in the knock out stage meekly or vice versa. I can't imagine how many supporters will be depressed on either side.

Thanks a lot to all of you who appreciated the gesture from us (fans) after the ugly incident and understanding that 2-3 idiots does not represent a country of 1.6 billion. Again we sincerely apologise for what happened. Cricket won in the end. ICF jindabad
