Question for Pak fans

Looking at Pak's team selection I wondered why Wahab Riaz or even Ajmal wasn't getting a game. To me Pak has one too many "bits and pieces" player and are one genuine bowler short. I was really impressed by Riaz's performance in NZ and would definitely play Riaz as he's left arm bowler and pretty good at the death or during power plays. Razzaq has been pretty consistent of late and is being wasted at 8. He should bat at 7 and play the same role which Pathan plays for India. Plus Gul and Riaz are handy bats down the order and can get quick runs. And in case it's a turning track I would bring in Ajmal instead of Riaz. This way Pak bats till 7 - enough depth on subcontinental pitches and has 4 specialist bowlers + Afridi. Would like to know what Pak fans think about the following team. Hafeez Shehzad Younis Khan (sorry proper batsman has to bat at 3 and not Akmal) Misbah (he's in form and should bat at 4) Umar Akmal (he should keep wkts as well) Afridi Razzaq Gul Riaz Ajmal/Rahman Akhtar

Good line-up and good thoughts on Riaz, I have always liked him in the limited over cricket. Pretty good left arm bowler and decent lower order hitter. And Razzaq must come ahead of Afridi. He's being wasted at # 8-7. Kamran must sit out, if not then its curtain for our chances. But I bet if he got a chance in the next game then this dropper will score a 50 and take flying catches.

UG, good post...agree with most of the stuff you've said but i will change my team...i've been saying this even when we were winning and not after just after this bad performance.. I will drop Shazad the so called Sehwag is over hype...the guy has no clue what he is doing other than just going across and get lbw..i would drop hafeez too but we only have one batsmen in the squad so can't really drop him and gota live with his 20 avg for now since he can bowl some .. Hafeez Asad (proper batsmen, no slugger like kami/umar or shazad) MYK Misbah Umar (slugger, use him as a keeper or we can use Asad as keeper) Afridi Razi Riaz Ajmal/Reman Gul Akhtar with this line up we have at least 3 proper batsmen, hafeez is more of a bowler than a batsmen, Umar can have his days and than afridi and razak can do some damage... bowling we have gul, akhtar, riaz, rehman/ajmal and afridi with help from hafeez and razi..

I think the problem is that they do lack confidence with their batting. And in sub continental conditions any side's bowling can get clobbered in a given day as we saw last match. I doubt whether they will drop a batsman for a bowler esp. after the batting perfomance last match. Tbh, I do understand where they are coming from. It is not a batting line up that inspires a lot of confidence.

unfortunately planning and pakistan team dont go together they are SO unpredictable pak supporters just pray that they have good 3 DAYS from the QF, and they got the WC pray: they won the toss and bat first kamran dont miss catches

Fawad is also a handy player and he is also good in the field but they havent picked him he did well whenever he played but he was unable to shift gears from what i saw in the Odi series against South Africa

I agree completely, as do most Pakistani fans Sadly the team selection is very defensive. Both Wahab and Ajmal are wicket takers and few can understand why Rehman and Hafeez are preferred over them. Afridi recently said he is happy with how Rehman can contain the batsmen, but that should not be the job of a spinner in limited overs cricket. The middle overs are where the game can be made or lost

Misbah and YK are too slow..Agree that their tactics of scoring runs and building partnership and then leave the job for Afridi and Razzaq to whack around has been successful in NZ but they need to build partnership at a bit more faster rate..

Its not like the other fielders are really fast. The fact is that subcontinent players are not good at fielding with 1-2 exceptions in the team.

The problem is our team management fears batting collapse which is a defensive strategy.I completely agree with you if you have got better bowlers why don't you play them?Wahb must play.He is one of the better bowlers at depth overs and we are missing him.Ajmal too is a wicket taker and he must play instead of Rehman.

The more you fear it, the more it will happen. If the management and the leadership fears collapse so badly, the batsmen obviously play with insecurity. I think Pakistani management needs to kick out the obvious failures (like Akmal) and back the rest all the way.

Friend, its not pakistan people fault. They are lead by two men who are weak in the head. They must understand this simple logic, they will only win via their bowling and that if 6 of their batsmen collapse then the seventh wont do anything. Just look at their coach, after the NZ game the great Waqar said the team needs more batsment. The most amazing thing is that fans are calling to still give Hafeez and Ahmad a chance, lol as if 4 games in the world cup, 2 against the minnows is not enough! SO SILLY`

Try and win with bowling. Mind you this is a different team if the fixers hadnt been caught. Amir would have ripped through the minnows

If I talk about batting only: All of Pakistani batting lineup have so many issues and right now almost all of them are not playing naturally with confidence... Openers: They were doing good in NZ but here I feel in each match they play with a fear of loosing the wicket, and they actually loose it by trying to not loose it, extra cautious... Middle order: There is a huge difference bw middle order of Inzi+Yousuf and now with Misbah & Younis, Inzi and Yousuf always played at much better SR, they were good at rotating the strike as well as boundaries at regular basis, also they were able to play at any pace after 40+ overs but these 2 just try to keep wickets in hand, they play like they are only following some script and whatever the case is, they will play only according to plan, not according to situation, you wont usually find more than 2 boundaries when any of them scores a fifty... Umar Akmal, Afridi & Razzaq: Umer Akmal comes in a confusing stage, usually at 35th-38th over specially while batting first, he have no idea, should I go for big shots or should I just rotate the strike and save the wicket otherwise he have all the strokes and can do much better than whatever he is doing currently, I would like him to try for few matches as opener or one down. Afridi: --------- Razzaq: He should get at least 6 to 7 overs in any case, for him I think there should be no batting order, if Pak is loosing only 4th or 5th wicket in 42nd over or so, they should just send in Razzq at No 5 or 6, if they lost too many before 40th then even 8th is OK with him, but if they picks him in the team, he should be fully utilized, he can be used even at No.3 sometimes, he has done a good job in past at that position...
