Actually Ishant has bowled both well and fast this year, taking wickets, hitting batsmen a lot and hitting 90 mph often. Praveen Kumar, although very medium pace, has had a dream couple of test series, taking a lot of wickets by swinging the ball both ways. Along with Umesh we have Aaron waiting in the wings who can be a bit quicker than Umesh and both these bowlers can both seam and swing the ball. Sreesanth, RP and Munaf have been disappointing though, slipping both in pace and wicket taking ability. All these bowlers could bowl in the 140s and take wickets. Sree is the only one who atleast sometimes cranks it up pacewise. Our current problem seems to be that we have a wicketkeeper captain with bruised fingers and hence he is loving medium pacers. :winky:

And here is a bowler , who has on a placid track produced a wonderful spell and yet you are saying he is't special! Cut down the jealousy :P

It's not jealousy. It's the truth. He's a good bowler and I'm sure he'll have a decent career but I don't think he'll be the next Wasim or Waqar as implied by our friends from across the border. If he can prove me wrong I'll be more than happy to eat humble pie.

But your captain Dhoni is more intent on giving trundlers a chance rather than giving confidence to likes of yadav and Aaron, In order to utilize them well Dhoni should back them and give them preference over vinay kumar, praveen kumar , sreesanth or any other trundler

Ishant is still only 22-33 and he already has over 100 wickets to his name in test cricket. HE can easily take 400 test wickets with this rate.

I think he averages around 35 ... if he keeps going at same rate he wont win many games for India even if he gets 400 wickets... Apart from westindies he has been very average against S.A and England in good bowling conditions

Zaheer averaged 36 until his comeback. Ishant got back his pace in WI. Was brilliant in patches in England. (Lord's second innings) But yeah, still a long way to go. As for PK, he averages 26 with the ball. He may not have speed but he is certainly skilled.

Ishant needs massive improvement.. Doesnt have any consistency at all... as far as PK goes I dont think he will be able to mantain that average with that sluggish pace... He will struggle big time in India because his bowling is heavily dependent on conditions..

Well, your Asif did with similar pace but then again he hardly played in Pakistan. Maybe PK can do that, sit out matches in the subcontinent.:--D

The legend Amir - who would have easily taken 1000 test wickets and was the greatest bowler of all time - was crap outside that one crazy summer in England where the ball moved around more than it has in years. class and pace. how is that relevant? as of now they have similar bowling stats in both formats of the game. Talk when PK's avg suffers. and as for Asif winning Pakistan some matches, where has PK even played in India. Yeah, I admit it's early days but suggesting that PK will not do well in India is idiocy. He bowled well in flat tracks of West Indies. Before you say it's only WI, remember your pacers didn't do anything much against the same team a month ago. It was the spinners who saw you through. Remember a man called Kumble? Everyone said he had no turn but he ended up as 3rd highest on all times wickets list.

They are different bowlers. Asif is taller and hits the deck to get seam movement while PK is a swing bowler.

OK. Misunderstood that. What I was trying to say is that PK is a pretty good bowler, in spite of not being phaaaaaaaaaaast. Many ICFers too don't like him because of that slotting him with the BAD trundlers like Vinay Kumar which shouldn't be the case. Since the original reply was regarding good Indian fast bowlers it would be unfair to not mention PK, who has done well with his limited opportunities so far but many people tend to ignore him for lack of pace.
