maniac Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Well we are all gripped with Worldcup fever but what about the long term future??? This is going to be the boss's swan song,Minus Tendulkar and this team doesn't have the same ring to it. Before the ICF'ers term me a worshipper, look at our team Mediocre players:Chawla,YKP,Nehra,Munaf Inconsistent and Unreliable:Sehwag,Yuvraj,Raina,Sreeshanth,Harbhajan...I know I will get a lot of heat for saying this but I will not rely too much on these guys to win matches consistently on a regular basis.Whenever I watch Sehwag or Yuvraj I have this fear that they might get out any time. Consistent but not matchwinners:Kohli,Gambhir On last legs:Sachin,Zaheer This is not a knee jerk reaction but our oneday future looks pretty bleak as this looks more like a team from the 90's where we had Sachin and a bunch of players under the same categories as above.early 2000 was the best time for us fans when we had Dada,Srinath,Kumble,Dravid and even Agarkar who is better than any undler available today Unproven:Ashwin Dhoni is no longer a match winner and he is terribly out of form.
Misu243 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Well you have to make way for new players. I think India will be just fine after Tendulkar retires. Look at some of the players who have retired - Ganguly, THE WALL Dravid, Kumble, or even Srinath if you want to look further. Yes we will have some concerns but I'm sure Gambhir and Sehwag will be our main opening partnership. They've done it before. I guess the team needs to realize what you're saying and work towards establishing themselves and being consistent from there.

Look at Hussey for example he filled the shoes of someone like Bevan and has performed much better at the sametime someone like Johnson who is no doubt talented, but has he over time perfromed at Mcgratheseque levels? All I am trying to say is we don't have too many consistent cricketers left capable of playing at the highest level
rkt.india Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 What a rubbish thread..We have won even without SRT..In 2010 SRT PLAYED only 2 odi still our win percentage was good.PRESENCE OF SRT makes different but still team can win and hopefully they will get better
rkt.india Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 We won 2 odi in sa this time without srt..in 2006 we couldnt win won even with srt sehwag, and dravid..we didnt have srt, viru, gambhir available, still did better

Iam talking about comprehensive victories and domination ala Aus and WI teams of yore.I don't see that happening with the current lot
punjabi_khota Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Dude, have you seen Virat Kohli ? That guy has been as consistent as any one I can remember.
maniac Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 Dude' date=' have you seen Virat Kohli ? That guy has been as consistent as any one I can remember.[/quote'] I am talking about the future of the team as a whole.....Virat is the brightest prospect in cricket right now but we need a pool of talent to emerge ASAP.future looks bleak for bowlers but our focus has always been batting but today's collapse has put serious doubt about the temperament of our middle and lower order. Talent will only take you that far.what makes Virat really good is his temperament to go with his talent but seriously Raina,Yuvraj(He has been said to have potential for like 13 years now but we all know about his consistency),YKP. I see good talent but most of these players don't instill confidence when I watch them.I don't want to pray for a freak performance by these players I want them to give us fans the confidence that hey this guy is still there he will win it.
rkt.india Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Choke needs pressure g building and good performance...Players like SRT are once in a lifetime player..:if he retires we need to move on..we will still have good enough players
rkt.india Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Its a team that plays and every player needs to contribute to get the bedt results. We have won quite a lot without srt in last 2 years.Siomeone comes do the job in batting.you are talking about yuvi and raina, both have won number of matches for us
maniac Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 Choke needs pressure g building and good performance...Players like SRT are once in a lifetime player..:if he retires we need to move on..we will still have good enough players Nice...Afterall your Profile says Hope is life but let's hope you are right
rkt.india Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 We need just 2-3 good effective pacers and we will be unmatchable for any team and i am sure we will have some good bowlers very soon
Debutant Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Threads like this are going to come in huge numbers till India wins another match. :hmmm::hmmm:
maniac Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 We need just 2-3 good effective pacers and we will be unmatchable for any team and i am sure we will have some good bowlers very soon I am talking about immediate future....we have a lot of waste at our disposal right now for eg;Chawla,Munaf,Nehra. Players who don't have guaranteed spots:Sreeshanth,Yuvraj,Raina,Pathan,Ashwin .Non-performers:Dhoni,Harbhajan. The only ones with a fixed role who are performing are SRT,Zak,Sehwag and Gambhir.that leaves us with 80% of the squad who are unreliable. Tell me the truth how confident where you when Yuvraj or Pathan came into bat today compared to the assurance you had when SRT and Gambhir were playing???
maniac Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 Just want to clear this...I am not being a pessimist or jumping the bandwagon after 1 loss. All I am saying is that the talent is there but we need better temperament. I know a lot of people will say we fought well today and against England but we shouldn't be in the situation to begin with when we had the game by the scruff of the neck we need to finsih it off.
Sooda Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Post WC SRT, Zaheer and Sehwag should all retire from ODIs, and our squads should be.. Rahane, Gambhir, Kohli, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Raina, Yousuf/Irfan (hopefully), Praveen, Munaf, Harbhajan, Ashwin/Umesh Tiwary, Dhawan, Piyush, maybe Vinay K or Pankaj or Tyagi or whoever And tests Gambhir, Vijay, Laxman, Tendulkar, Sehwag, Pujara, MSD, Bhajj, Zaheer, Sree, Munaf, Mithun, Ojha, Kohli, Parthiv, Rahane
