fineleg Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Please Yuvraj' date=' You know better than that.[/quote'] paaji, It is to say that even bowlers like Yuvi, and spinners from other teams outbowled harbie and chawla. Harbie needs to be kicked out of the ODI squad, if he cannot perform his role as our leading spinner - which is to take wickets (not just 0-42) He needs to lift his game against WI and subsequent ones

fineleg Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 :hatsoff: Thanks gf. Its nothing but a disgrace that a foriegn team (other than SL) outbowls us in the spin dept in a subcontinental worldcup!!
pinkfreud Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 This is what happens when you lean more towards 'containment' bowlers rather than wicket takers like Ashwin and Sreesanth.

Thats what i said in this thread that when guys like Seelar take more wickets than you what does that tell you and overall Harbhajans average in major tournament is very poor fact is that if you are regarded as the best spinner you have to prove it by taking wickets not by giving away 32 or 40 runs for no wickets
Switchblade Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 A guy like Robin Pitereson has more wickets than Bhaj is Robin a better spinner than Bhajii
therocky Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 This is what happens when you lean more towards 'containment' bowlers rather than wicket takers like Ashwin and Sreesanth. They aren't even good at containment, Chawla gives over 6 runs an over easily and Bhajji around 5 or more. Nobody should have a permanent place in the team whoever they are except Sachin, if Bhajji isn't performing he needs to leave and give someone else a chance. Give sreesanth one more chance

Zero_Unit Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Harbajan, Vettori and Shakib are all doing poorly in this WC in my opinion and apprently those 3 are suppose to be the best in business :S
Fontaine Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 The problem with Harbhajan is that he doesn't really take wickets when batsmen are playing him defensively. Batsmen have learned to play Bhajji off length because he doesn't really flight the ball effectively so they can easily play the ball late and push it around for singles. I've seen Dhoni set attacking fields to Bhajji's bowling, bringing him in when we've just taken a wicket to have him attack the new batsmen, including adding a slip catcher but until Bhajji learns to have a better arm ball that loops in (which is the way most spinners have been getting MOST of their wickets so far), batsmen can continue to play against him without much fear. Yuvraj is a great example of this. He's NOT a more talented spinner than Bhajji but even HE understands how to use his left arm bowling angle around the wicket to give the ball just enough air and still land it on middle and off to give his arm ball a chance. When was the last time we saw Bhajji drift the ball in on a good/fullish length on middle/off at an angle only for the ball to go straight and deceive the batsmen in this tournament? Almost ALL of Bhajji's arm balls go flat, quick and straight. He's turned it into a dart instead of a genuine wicket taking delivery unlike other spinners. It's almost as if they guy is afraid to give away a boundary or two and that's not a good approach from a spinner. Unless Bhajji picks up his game and becomes a wicket taker rather than a containment bowler, I don't see India progressing to the finals.
asterix Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Sarwan could've played 'defensively' against Swann yesterday when he was bowling his last over. But Swann is such a good bowler, he induces false strokes from the batsman even when the batsman is looking to play defensively..You can almost bank of Swann to take wickets at crunch situations, when taking wickets matters and not saving runs..Swann took 2 wickets in his last over.. So I don't agree the suggestions that Bhajji is not getting wickets because batsmen are playing him "defensively"..
Switchblade Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 @asterix both Swanny and Tredwell got wickets at important stages and even after being they were hit for 6s they didnt panicked
asterix Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 If all the Indian spinners are struggling then the PROBLEM LIES SOMEWHERE ELSE..Look how Strauss backed his bowlers with attacking field settings..Dhoni will retire from cricket rather than setting fields like that and backing his bowlers..It's easy to blame bowlers in the post match interviews but WHAT ABOUT HIS BACKING HIS BOWLERS? I don't think Bhajji bowls like that. He is a very attacking bowler and has been like that. Since Dhoni has become captain, he pressurizes bowlers to "contain", "be defensive" and talks about "creating pressure". What will bowlers do when you have fielder all over the field saving runs. The bowler will also try to save runs and bowl flat. Atleast by doing that he'll ensure that he'll not get publicly criticised in post match interviews etc. SO THE PROBLEM LIES SOMEWHERE ELSE if all the Indian spinners are failing.. That's why I'm hoping that Dhoni just concentrates in Captaining Test matches and leave the Limited Overs Captaincy to a more competent player who can bring fresh ideas and attitude and help bowlers to come out of defensive mindset.

Swann vs Bhajji in India vs England..do the comparison and you will know who bowled better. Also, if the Chennai pitch for Sunday's match is anywhere close to what it was for WI-Eng match, Bhajji will easily outbowl Swann once again. What he has been crying for in every interview is last 2-3 years is to see some bounce on our home pitches, notthe dead slow pattas. He doesn't need a spinning track but a track that offers him some bounce, like the Chennai wicket yesterday. BTW apne aap ko thora control kar lo bhai. Dhoni ko saari gaaliyaan abhi hi de daaloge to WC ke baad kya hoga :--D

That's a flat out LIE. Unless you're blind any fan can clearly see Dhoni has employed slip catchers routinely for spinners in the middle overs, especially when Bhajji is bowling, hell even when Yuvraj has bowled he's set in an attacking field with a slip. Same with Zaheer. As a matter of fact Dhoni can been seen and sometimes heard through stump mikes talking to his bowlers during an over about field placings so it's not just Dhoni that sets a field but gets regular input from the bowler. I've routinely seen Zaheer/Dhoni talking during the middle overs or when the ball is changed about which fielders to bring in and so on. For you to say Dhoni just sets defensive fields is about as lame as it gets considering he's mentioned numerous times that when it comes to fast bowling he pretty much allows Zaheer to set fields for fast bowlers because he's the most experienced. So yeah, you're pretty much wrong on all counts. The ONLY time I've consistently seen defensive fields is when we're using the fifth bowler and every damn team does it too because no team in the world has a quality wicket taking fifth bowler.

Only wickets fall during the death overs when batsmen take risks
