he said something of the intent that with these kinda celebrations he would be upsetting his team mates. though I myself don't like either Afridi or his celebrations a bit, but Ian Chappell as a commentator wasn't right in making that comment..

While showing the replay of wicket Afridi took: b Smith he said: He stands in the middle of pitch with rised arms, I dont like that for couple of reasons, basically he hasnt done much to get the wicked and ... (dont remember exactly what other reason he told), then on 2nd replay he said: that doesnt look good, team mates'v gota get sick of a captain doing that all the time...

Chappell doesnt mince words and says whatever he wants to. That's what he is being paid to do, isnt he ? The other day he was talking about the spat between Arjuna and Warne during the 96 final and how Arjuna liked getting under the skin of the opposition, especially the Aussies. During an interview before the final, Arjuna was asked what he thought about Warne and he said something like he is over rated. Warne replied something like 'what is that fat lard saying about me ?'. This is something most commentators dont bring up on air but he does. Its different to the usual boring PC commentary we get to hear.

^^ There is no integrity involved in it. A batsman is well within his rights to stay if the umpire has wrongly given him not out. When we expect a batsman to walk when given wrong out by an umpire without showing dissent, we also can expect the batsman to stay when given wrongly not out.

Chappell simply spoke his mind. 2) Afridi's celebration reeks of selfishness - CHECK Come on, the guy celebrates as if he has conquered the opponents after every wicket. He did this even with Canada, Kenya & Zimbabwe. Typical Pakistani cricketer who hogs those glory moments and bigs up himself. Once again, Ian C is on the money. 3) Ponting will punish Pakistan for the Sydney test. This is just Chappell's opinion, does not come across as distasteful. Based on hindsight, Chappelli would have wished he had not made this comment. But this is not a malice-ridden comment. Overall I dont see why non-Pakistanis are upset with Chappell's comments.

And you cannot be upset with commentators for such negative sentiment towards a team that has shown zero respect for the game everyone so dearly loves. Pakistan, after all the hoopla on spot-fixing, is lucky to be playing in the world cup. The ECB saved its bum. IIRC, Ian was one of the guys who called for life bans on all spot-fixers. He is obviously upset that these loonie-toonies masquerading as cricketers are allowed to fix games & roam around freely with impunity. Plenty of Aussies are peeved at the suggestion that the Sydney test was fixed. So the feeling towards Pakistani cricket team is understandable.

Because it is ridiculous. Or is it alright because it is a Pakistani player that he is targeting? Yes, Afridi is an idiot and we know that. Is there a need to keep talking about it and then take it a new low where you have a problem with a method of celebration or a team huddle? The problem with Chappell is that he gets personal and once he hates someone, he won't stop with the comments about his cricket. We've see him do it with S Waugh and Gilly as well. Someone posted about Chappell hyping Haddin. This has been happening for ages. It is his way of getting back at Gilly. Remember his comments about how Australia would not miss Gilly since Haddin is a better keeper as good a batsman?
