Engg college girl sacked for keeping IIT Delhi boyfriend in hostel room

On a serious note' date=' pretty strict reaction by the college in Gorakhpur. [b']The odd part is that the other girls complained about the guy entering the hostel. :omg: I expected some kind of solidarity among hostelites on matters like these. However, where I think the MMM college went overboard is asking IIT Delhi to take action against the boy. Frankly, it is not the business of MMM college what IIT Delhi decides to do. Especially on matters like these, where only minor laws are broken (rather bent). I know a few students in IIT Mumbai, who say that some IITians there have drugs and alcohol on campus. If serious issues like these can go unchecked for aeons, then IIT shouldn't punish this guy for his amorous actions. PS: I actually find it quite romantic that this guy went all the way to Gorakhpur to be with his girl and entered in a girls dress. :two_thumbs_up: And they are good students too.
Girls are jealous. I bet if it was a boys hostel, the men would have gone to extra ordinary lengths to save the guy in question. Rustication is OTT. I think the girl has a genuine law suit here. She can sue the college for millions here.

I am not against sex or co-ed hostels though but it is not a co-ed hostel and she knew it and so it was against the rules. If any college starts co-ed hostels or starts encouraging sex in hostels with mutual consent then there is no problem as it would be under the rules and their personal matter. But they should make the rules also clear so that parents also have an idea before sending their children as I know that some parents might have problem with such a system.
:--D What exactly are you advocating? Colleges encouraging sex?? As far as I know, there are no co-ed hostels anywhere.

I don't know about that. You just can't generalize. If I were in that hostel, I wouldn't complain to anyone unless extremely inconvenienced. There must be more to this story than what we are told. :pepsi: I mean they didn't complain to the warden the entire night, but after he left? So was he not noticed till then? And if he was leaving the next morning, when he was spotted, why did they complain? Just a guy leaving is of no harm to them, come to think of it. Pyar ke dushman. :nono:

Btw' date=' from which century is the word 'rusticate' from? Never seen it used anywhere else before, EVER. :hmmm:[/quote'] If you believe this, it has Latin origins and was coined in the 1650s. Its a left over form the British era, which has stuck on. Strange that you've never heard of it. Quite commonly used in Indian academic and legal circles. Also in Bollywood movies. Seen Dil? 3 Idiots? This is why I insist on growing up on a healthy dosage of Bollywood movies. You learn a lot.

Come on now. 'Dismissed' is not as sensational as 'Rusticated' . Would you have read the article if the title had the word 'dismissed'? People give hell to TOI, but when it comes to coining headlines that catch you attention, they are the best in the business.

The headline actually says 'keeping IIT Delhi boyf...'.. Keeping? what is he, a toy?

Not if the rules were stated clearly enough. You also have to consider the security aspect. There have been murders recently in hostels and dorms. The guy might be known to the girl but for the others he is still a stranger and they might have felt threatened

Rustication is a serious matter. The girl's whole life and years of hard work is going to go wasted. Young boys and girls do weird things to have sex. I am sure the college authorities have encountered such situations before. There is nothing new to it. The hormones are flowing and the young minds are getting naughty. Breaking the rules is definitely punishable, but destroying someone's entire life is a little too much.

your red hot form in producing absurd posts continues. some girls do have objections to male presence at night in their rooms.its ridiculous to expect that one or the other girl would not raise objection. especially if they are not comfortable with the boy in question either due to unfamiliarity or popularity. i was aware of this issue during studies in USA.if a female friend wanted help in her assignments at night, the consent or presence of her room mates mattered always . i made sure on that count. but the penalty is ridiculous.it should have been a lesser penalty (for vialting privacy of other girls) than spoil someone's career

"On March 7 when her roommate was not present in the hostel.." There was no other girl in the room in question?

Did you read the article ViruRulez posted? Relevant part for you:
On March 7 when her roommate was not present in the hostel, the girl brought her boyfriend during the night in girl's dress. Next morning, the boy left the room in the same dress.
Her room mate was not in the room that night. So your point about other girls having objection to the presence of a guy in their rooms is moot. He (mostly) wasn't in a room with any of the girls who complained. The only girl with whom he shared a room was the one who 'brought' him in. Its highly doubtful that she objected to his presence. Unless you know better. And for the sake of argument, if he was indeed sharing a room with some other girls also, why didn't they complain that night itself? Prima facie, it looks like the other girls realized only the next morning that a guy stayed over with the rusticated girl. Till then they were blissfully unaware. So your whole theory of the other girls objecting to his presence is on flimsy grounds, especially when he wasn't present with them and was discovered only the next morning.

I don't know what they teach in the US, but here in India we've been taught that in a debate you attack the idea(s) the 'opponent' puts forth and not the 'opponent'. I am sure on that count.

you are still not getting the issue. An external outsider inside the premises is a "potential threat" and girls(especially conservative south asians) are wary of strangers inside their living premises. even in the US where boyfirends and girl friends visit each other, an outsider has to enter into the register while visting a residence hall(a hostel block).Outsiders are not permitted without authorisation. leave alone a hostel. i read a story where mumbai woman objected to a constable sharing an auto at nightime and ordered him off. the presence of a third person in the auto was not something she anticipated and she didn't trust the sudden appearance of a third person(even its a policeman !). the fear could have been misplaced but it was not advisable to trust strangers. hence its better to be safe. the boy is not supposed to be inthe premises and some girls felt their security was put at risk by the actions of the couple. it will be an issue anywhere inthe world.

you are a 'crazy'poster. hence normal rules don't apply :winky:

I hope she is gone just temporarily and not thrown out forever. If people are thrown out for breaking college rules, most colleges would be more than half empty.
