ViruRulez Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 GORAKHPUR: A BTech final year girl student at MMM Engineering College, Gorakhpur, was rusticated by the college administration on Tuesday for keeping her boyfriend in her hostel room during night. The boy is a student of IIT-Delhi. The college has also asked IIT-Delhi to initiate action against the boy. According to reports, the girl was residing at Saraswati Mahila Hostel of the MMM Engineering College along with her roommate. On March 7 when her roommate was not present in the hostel, the girl brought her boyfriend during the night in girl's dress. Next morning, the boy left the room in the same dress. Several girl students of the hostel made complaints to the warden about the girl's act. The matter was reported to the college principal who set up a panel to probe into the incident. The panel found truth in the allegation and recommended for rustication of the girl from the college. It is said that the girl herself had confessed to have brought her boyfriend to the hostel room. She also disclosed the name of her boyfriend and his whereabouts. It is said that both belong to Agra district and know each other for quite a long time. They are academically brilliant and the girl was also selected by a company for job during the campus recruitment. The odd part is that the other girls complained about the guy entering the hostel. :omg: I expected some kind of solidarity among hostelites on matters like these. However, where I think the MMM college went overboard is asking IIT Delhi to take action against the boy. Frankly, it is not the business of MMM college what IIT Delhi decides to do. Especially on matters like these, where only minor laws are broken (rather bent). I know a few students in IIT Mumbai, who say that some IITians there have drugs and alcohol on campus. If serious issues like these can go unchecked for aeons, then IIT shouldn't punish this guy for his amorous actions. PS: I actually find it quite romantic that this guy went all the way to Gorakhpur to be with his girl and entered in a girls dress. :two_thumbs_up: And they are good students too.

I know the decision is harsh but am sure the rules would have been made clear earlier and some people would not have liked a stranger coming into their hostel because of security issues

About the rustication, I would somewhat agree about rustication from the hostel though I am not sure about the college rustication part. She broke the rules of the hostel and so she should have been rusticated from the hostel. The rustication from college is also justified to an extent as it was a college hostel but they should give her another chance and allow to continue her studies in that college after she gives a written apology. Her career should not be destroyed but it should also be made an example so that students do not break rules in the future. I am not against sex or co-ed hostels though but it is not a co-ed hostel and she knew it and so it was against the rules. If any college starts co-ed hostels or starts encouraging sex in hostels with mutual consent then there is no problem as it would be under the rules and their personal matter. But they should make the rules also clear so that parents also have an idea before sending their children as I know that some parents might have problem with such a system.

If we start dismissing people for this, then there will be no students left. Having said that, If the rules of the hostel says no outsiders allowed and you break it AND get caught doing it, it would be naive to not expect to be punished for it. But the college authorities have gone way overboard. There's obviously more to the story than what's being reported.

I visit TOI also very rarely nowadays due to lack of time and today when I went to TOI and clicked on Most read on their front page then saw this article with 1500+ comments. So, thought of posting as there was too much activity in that news article. :giggle: I am fine yaar. How about you? I have been quite busy recently with both online and offline business startups and so could not visit ICF or to concentrate on cricket though I have been still following our matches especially quite diligently. I still work on my computer and so do not login in here normally during matches. But you will find a couple of posts here and there in match threads etc. I suppose in these weeks too though not that regularly. Pata nahin is baar IPL pe bhi entry maar paunga ya nahin. :P A bit too busy this time round. Aur aaj kal ICF betting bhi nahin karta. You also seem to be visiting a lot lesser it seems. Tu bhi IPL me hi entry maarna chahta hai kya. :P
