It's no surprise that Zaheer has been the lynchpin of the pace attack for India in the last couple of years. With the league stage out of the way and no matter how he does in the future, he has been the 'go to' bowler for MSD in the tournament and has brought India back into the game at key junctures of the game. The Outsider Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 It's a batsman's game, but Zaheer has carried the Indian bowling basically on his own. 15 wickets, an average of 15, and ER of 4.3. Not just the numbers it's been the timing of his wickets - brought India back into the match against England when we had lost for all practical purposes, the death bowling against South Africa to give Nehra a very defendable total, and again Smith's wicket against WI. For me he has been India's MVP.

Ponting in the Bangalore Test last year is another such dismissal that comes to mind. Today the game turned with that wicket of Devon...otherwise the WI were cruising at that point

The Realist Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Khan would be even more effective if he had another good bowler who could tie up an end, keep the pressure and chip in to take wickets. Just so damn frustrating that nobody can step up to partner Khan and ease the workload. Khan deserves credit for carrying India's bowling in this WC.

Misu243 Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 He has been up there with Umar Gul if you ask me...He is our pace spearhead..He is literally carrying the other 50% of our team, the bowling department..his crucial breakthroughs at the right moments bring momentum to the team and the rest of the bowlers..Munna has the capability to play a handy role as his partner but he needs to improve his fielding..that runout was shocking

IMO Zaheer with the old ball is getting pretty close to how Akram used to bowl with the old ball.

Yes but Srinath was a better opening strike bowler, with Srinath you always felt an early wicket was on the cards because of his good pace. Zaheer has done most of his damage a the end of innings.

I recall 2003 world cup when he was totally off color in our must win games in super 6 stage and the same thing happened in the world cup final in 2003. Zaheer right now with old ball at least gives the team enough confidence to know that at least Zaheer's end would not go for runs.

The first time I saw him I thought the guy is 6'5 or 6'6 and will definitely scare the batsmen and then I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw him bowl at 125 kph :hysterical: We must be the only country where big fast bowlers like Prasad, Kuruvilla etc. don't translate into speed but more of 120-130 kph trundleness :((
