Indian batsmen while chasing & batting first in the last 4 years

They don't have to bail us out. THey just have to give company to whoever bats there not swinging the bat brainlessly. With that kind of tail you are almost couple of wickets away from a dramatic collapse.

It depends upon how they read the situation: * Against 338 was not that bad, * Against SA, the guys were trying to get to 350 but things happened and changed so fast that they couldn't adjust their games. Dhoni should have been taking most of the strike as well, if I am not wrong * Against WI, the tail was batting when the batting PP was on. With the in-field packed, it's difficult for tail-enders to find the gap on regular basis so they try to do what they know the best, i.e. go over the top So what next, when they don't swing their bats and Ind is like 15 runs short, do we have a thread that the guys didn't go for it? :P

Say anything you want.. Indias tail has been one of the reason India won few tight matches recently. Bhajji himself won 2 matches (1 against SA 1 against Pakistan). Technically he didn't need to give that touch. But he did the job for us. So teams do plan around such factors. If 4 of your batsmen are absolutely useless then it is a serious problem. Throw in the hit or miss Yusuf Pathan in the mix. We are down to 6 batsmen. DHoni was stranded in one of the match, Ashwin who looked okay with bat iwas stranded in the last match.

And since we know this, we should plan in a way that we try to maximize the most out of our top 6, some of whom are rated to be amongst the best. The top 6 have to try to play most of the overs amongst them and not have say #8 coming in w/ 10 overs to go. :winky: We wnat the top 6 to fire, the tail to play like proper batsmen, bowlers to bowl like Ambrose and Warne, fielders to field better but unfortunately our team has a lot of limitations and therefore we have to play in a way we make the most out of our strength

And since we know this, we should plan in a way that we try to maximize the most out of our top 6, some of whom are rated to be amongst the best. You are putting all egg in one basket. Not all tailenders are useless. You cannot possibly equate Munaf/Nehra to Harbhajan who has got test centuries and saved our ass in Tests. If only Bhajji were to be as useless with bat as Munaf or Nehra he would have been long gone from our ODI squad. Robin Peterson is definitely well below Kallis . But without him they would have lost the match. With Bresnan and Shezhad England would have lost too. You are living in 1980s where we don't expect anything from tail. You are assuming a good batting side cannot collapse at all. It is cricket. There will be collapses somewhere. Either at the top or the middle. India has to score 10 runs with 4 wickets in hands. Imagine all tailenders getting out for 0 and lose. Would you say.. it is not the fault of tail?

In such situations our last 5 batsmen should be able to take some heat occasionally. We are not asking them to put up a 100 partnership like RP singh added 100 plus with Dhoni in West Indies. We just expect them to bat out 50 overs. if they are not able to do it consistently pick a proper batsman like Raina over inconsistent Yusuf.

Ofcourse.. India beat Pakistan because Raina's exploits down the order supplemented by Bhajji's effort. You cannot walk in to the ground with a thought our tail can collapse for 20 odd runs. That adds even more pressure to the top order.
