Also, his Captaincy has'nt been bad either - the way he was showing calmness even when the fielders were dropping Goddy again and again and again was very, very un-Afridi. And then his post match interview :hatsoff: There was a thread where it says that PCB is going to fire him - I think if this happens then it would a horribly bad decision even by the low standards of the PCB.

This is the same guy that just a few months ago was blatantly caught chewing the seam off the ball twice and pretended in his post match interview nothing had happened and that he was smelling the ball. The same guy who got into it with Gambhir on the pitch. Pakistan did well to reach the semi's but my opinion hasn't changed of players like Afridi, Riaz, Gul who are cheating ****s.
Cricketics Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Even though his batting which he is still more famous for, didn't really have anything to show, his commitment on the field was noticed and appreciated. His bowling getting better has lifted his fielding also. Now he seems to be a better fielder too, not that he was bad before, plus I think he was enjoying the captaincy. Perhaps might not be retained again, but until he wants to play, I think afridi is a good captain for Pakistan in ODI's.

I don't know about anyone else but I rarely see a lack of humility by anyone postmatch, despite what everyone says about Sanga etc Fair enough he has not blamed anyone, but it seems a low bar set just coz it's Afridi.
Fontaine Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I'll mostly remember Afridi in this match for playing yet another brainless shot in a long list of blunders when his team needed him the most. With a spread out field he plays an ugly cross batted shot to a full toss rather than trying to play according to the situation. I'll bet the Indian team completely planned that dismisal because it was totally obvious. Bhajji/Dhoni and the seniors probably said, let's bowl him a juicy half volley with a spread out field and the joker won't be able to resist. Even the commentators sniffed out the setup. Pavlov's dogs probably had more self restraint. That and completely idiotic batting powerplay management. So no, the guy hasn't earned any of my respect. On the plus side he's still more than worthy of my contempt.

It's the stupidity in the past which makes this somehow noteworthy. Above poster might have a point about on-field actions. Dropped catches yesterday seemed a perfect excuse for a Shahid Meltdown....I guess he channelled that thru his starfish crap when catching Tendulkar.
