singhprakash72 Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Well this little TOSS episode could have turned into a big controversy, if India would have lost this match..what baffles me is that a idiot like Jeff Crowe who has messed up so many matches including 2007 WC was again found sleeping during a Toss of a World Cup final...what on earth is this guy supposed to do other than hear "Head" or "Tail" during a crucial WC Toss. Sanga you were in high esteem ..but alas you let down...Great people do honest things irrespective of the situation they are in. If he called ...he knew what he called... duh ? Sri Lanka needs better ambassador than Sanga or he will be taken in same vein as our Aussie friend Ricky Ponting!!! again nothing wrong with that .

Logically speaking there are two scenarios: 1. He won the toss. But circumstantial evidences are against this. His attempts to assert that he won the toss were very feeble. In fact there were no attempts at all. Jeff Crowe and Dhoni might be confused as they did not hear anything but what was Sangakkara's confusion? He called the coin and he wouldn't have known that others had not heard his call. He should have gone straight up, as he goes in appeal almost every ball, claiming the victory. All you can see that he never remotely remonstrated against re-toss. 2. He lost the toss. Circumstantial evidences are in favor. As soon as toss was completed, he saw confused reactions from both Crowe and Dhoni. While these reactions got himself confused as well, our own Ravi came up with this gem. "We'll have re-toss?. This gave Sangakara a perfect opportunity and excuse for a re-toss. He let his discretion go down and this momentarily weakness prompted him to agree immediately with the suggestion that Ravi came up with. IMHO, it was Jeff Crowe's weakness for agreeing to Shastri's suggestion of re-toss, without taking a moment. He should have asked for Sangakkara's word and that would have forced Sangakkara to tell the truth. and of course, Shastri interfered unnecessarily in whole process and made matter worse.

There was enough professional integrity in the middle - until this incident - for one captain to take another's word for it. I have a feeling Sanga's relentless and shameless appealing behind the stumps has turned into a professional hazard and has eroded his sense of honour.

I don't know whats stopping him to come out with the truth, in the face of so much criticism. Lest ofcourse you are wrong. And I just can't seem to fathom how someone like Sanga would actually give up on his chance of electing because the ref went deaf. It is completely un-Sangakarra like, as he is someone who wouldn't think twice before advicing his player to bowl a no-ball to a batter when he's on the verge of a milestone.
