Going Forward - Areas of Improvement.

Battting - Solid need to replace Sachin only. Fileding - Need all around improvement. Bowling Spin - Plenty of good options. Pace - This is the area India really needs to work upon. They should have a pool of 10 bowlers who should be rotated all the time to avoid injuries. These are the guys in pool I can think of - Parveen, Munaf, Zak, Nehra, SS, Tyagi, RP, Mithun who else?

Pace:Varun Aaron,Deepak Chahar,Umesh Yadav...Shouldn't expose these guys at all in the IPL

Looking at the last 3 matches.. one could see... Indian bowlers are capable of upping their pace when it is necessary. Today Sreesanth touched 91 mph. I personally think for rythm and injury reasons our bowlers cut down the pace. I hope Irfan Pathan returns to the squad. He lends incredible balance.

Definitely we need to bring in a Brett Lee type of pace bowler..Varun Aaron looks like a good prospect..

We need to groom specialist set of bowlers for LOI and tests...Munna,Nehra,Ashwin or Praveen Kumar don't see them peforming in tests and similarly Sreeshanth in LOI's unless we get a special talent like say a Bret Lee,Steyn or even a Greame Swann who are equally effective in all formats

The batting pool should include promising batsmen like Pujara, Rohit, etc. Today it was very fortunate that we had essentially 3 opening batsmen (Viru, Goddy and Gauti), so grooming of opening batsmen, other middle order batsmen is also important. The problem is not of cricketing talent in case of batting - its the matter of mental toughness.

Our bowling at the death is the sh1tz. Going forward I suggest the following squads: Tests: Gambhir, Vijay, Laxman, Tendulkar, Sehwag, Pujara, MSD, Harbhajan, Zaheer, SreeSanth, Munaf Mithun, Ojha, Kohli, Mukund, Saha ODI: Rahane, Gambhir, Kohli, Yuvraj, Dhoni, Raina, Yosuf/Irfan (depending on IPL/domestic form) Harbhajan, Praveen, Ashwin/Umesh, Munaf Parthiv, Rohit Sharma Hopefully Sehwag, SRT and Zaheer will retire from ODIs...

I would say drop Bhajji,Chawla,Santh,Munaf and keep Ashwin,Yusuf. Ojha,Tyagi,Umesh should get chances too.

I agree, grooming of opening batsman is important. India essentially had 3 opening batsman in this game today and it paid off.

Guys it's not enough to experiment with average pace bowlers. Pace bowling is THE missing link in Indian cricket, and even for spin, after Bhajji (with Kumble still unreplaced) we're going to need to fill the gap. It is vital to have names that you can rely on 4 out of 5 times. Zaheer was not doing too great until he went and worked hard on his bowling in county, and today he's a KEY player. Similarly, the message to the large pool of potential pacemen should be clear: work hard on your pace bowling, whether it's in England, Australia or at home, and fight for a place on the team because you won't get it for free. Once that gap is filled, India will become what Australia was in the late 90's, early 00's. This WC will be the start of a long winning streak.
