They have trumpeted Indian talent for a long time and have egg on their face. Look around- Vijay, quota player from Srikanth's state, the other opener, Kohli...I can't believe India have picked Mithun for a Test match again- he's dreadfully bad. Indian fans are definitely deluding themselves. The cupboard is bare.

Many people raised serious doubts over Kohli's ability to succeed in International cricket and he has proved all of them wrong by his good and consistent performances in ODIs and its only a matter of time before he does that in Tests as well. He has the ability and the temperament to succeed in the longer version of the game and he will do well in tests.

They help seasoned India-doubters reinforce stereotypes such as "Can't play the bouncing ball" or "Medium pacer at best". Good grief, they are really poor! We must be in a really bad way to put out this lot.

Can you please tell me the players who you think should be playing instead of VIJAY MUKUND KOHLI I want to learn the theory or art to find a way of knowing who can perform well in a test match in their first few matches when the seniors are not playing and someone need to replace them. And who are those players in our domestic who should have played over likes of Kohli, Mukund etc.

The cupboard is bare.[/quote'] Frankly speaking, I believed the media hype as well as read too much into Kohli's early success in international cricket and expected a smooth transition into tests especially against not so threatening WI. But I was wrong, very very wrong. He is not any special talent or a prodigy or whatever. He is just another batsman who may go on to have an average or above average career which won't be anything great as we all were expecting with bated breath. I might be getting too harsh on him after just 3 innings but the way he got dismissed all these times has left me bitterly disappointed.

His first 5-10 ODIs were not that great and he was dropped too. It is only three innings. Look how much timer Gambhir took to become a test player..same is with VVS who too was not an instant success. Not every one will score 100 on debut and it is not necessary 100 on debut makes a batsman great. Initial difficulty make him realize that Test cricket is not that easy and he will have to work hard in every innings. He has done in it ODIs after indifferent attitude and start. Hope, he will turn it around in tests too. After all, he has done well with A team in Australia EPT in more demanding conditions.

He is far behind in talent than Rohit. Kohli is not a special batsman or as we say naturally talented. It is his temperament towards the game and hunger to succeed which has been his forte and helped him succeed in ODIs. Rohit is more talented than Kohli, but talent alone does not guarantee you success. We still have 1-2 years with our old guards and selectors need to ensure that these players get ready by then and have enough taste of test cricket at international level.

Lets see what future has for him...we cannot write him off..I have seen him playing in much more tough conditions than these in SA in ODIs, especially his Champions trophy innings of 70 odd against on a super bouncy and seaming track of Wanderers aginst Roach an Gavin Tong against whom even Gambhir could not survive and recent ODI series in SA. he was the highest scorer for us. If initial failures were any clue, we would have written off Dravid and Ganguly in ODIs in 1996 only, but they were given time to perform and they did make it in ODIs as well as they had done well in Tests. Though transition from ODIs to test has no comparison but a batsman who has faced all the best fast bowlers in recent time and has been successful must have some thing in him and if he has any deficiency he will over come it and do well within his limitations. I do not remember any successful no. 3 ODI batsman who has been complete failure at test level.

Don't listen to the bhaiyas on ICF- they couldn't tell the rear end of a chimpanzee from its testicles if they sucked on it. Indian cricket is like a decrepit old Ambassador running on two and a half wheels at the moment. Just about rolling along, with the other 1.5 pretending to be Firestone or Goodyear incarnates, while being nothing of that sort- more like rickshaw parts borrowed from the scrapheap. Massive fraud by Kohli, Vijay & co.

He deserves more chances and i am sure he will become a big player for India. I agree that Rohit Sharma has the most natural talent of all Indian batsman but he is behind Raina and Kohli in terms of temperament and work ethic. However, he looks to have slimmed down and i think Rohit will get his chance in the next 12-18 months.
