Did Kohli make the difference?

Come to think of it, I feel that it was Kohli's maturing as a player that really shook things around in the batting department. Suddenly Yuvraj and Raina werent assured of a place and only 3 players out of Yuvi,Raina, Kohli and Pathan could be in the team at a single time. This forced all of them to better their attitude and throw themselves around on the field to prove their all round worth to the team management. Virat_Kohli_300.jpg

Kohli was fielding well all the way. But our level went up after Raina joined Kohli. Then we were getting to the business end. So everyone stepped up. The thing is more you want to step up more you could make mistake. Our fielders did not wilt under pressure.

Even yuvraj's fielding improved much more after Kohli and Raina came in the squad. Nehra also started diving around :omg: Only dadaji was at his mediocre fielding best :hehe:

This lad holds a major spot in our future team' date=' unless he goes the Rohit route.[/quote'] If he had to go, he would have gone already. First time he caught my attention was hsi match saving innings on the day of his father's death. Mentally very tough this bloke is unlike Rohit.

I think its more the case of Big match players coming to the party at the biggest stage of them all rather than Kohli maturing as a batsman. Yuvi had been a failure with the bat for quite sometime but come the WC and suddenly we saw a completely different Yuvi. Raina was also not looking in particularly good form but in the WC when he was given the chance he played two crucial innings in the QFs & SFs. Gauti and Dhoni also had a relatively quite WC according to their usual standards but when it mattered the most i.e. The Final, both came good. In fielding I think it was Raina who made the biggest difference, although Kohli and Yuvi were no less, but it was only since the arrival of Raina that we really saw a marked improvement in the fielding. Kohli is the future of Indian cricket - its fantastic to see that he still has his feet on the ground after the immense success he has had in the last 12 months :adore:

It's not just the 35 runs, but also his reaction afterwards that is evidence of his temperament and commitment. He was so guilty of getting out at a low score that for hours the guy did not even take off his pads and kept standing staring at the batsmen outside with an emotional face. The guy wanted to play a long one and win it. But yes, his role in that phase of consolidation was instrumental. Good player and a great prospect for the future.

Kohli is a born leader. He never looked uncomfortable in any of the stays in this world cup. He was looking good. It was a brilliant catch by Dilshan. But that was a very very crucial platform he set alongwith Gauti.

^that happens because of a extravagant bottom hand. La Dhoni. Dhoni sometimes gives the easiest of catches, because he checks his backlift, and tries the bottm hand to get more power. It works sometimes and not. Kohli is still learning.

Good point OP about the bench strength with regards to middle-order bats. That's how the ozzie cap motivates and inspires performances in a match. Now if only we could do that with the pace attack. :hmmm:

He played a key role vs australia and sri lanka just by setting things up for Dhoni yuvi and raina to win the match, but he'll know that he should of kept going in both those matches to finish those teams off himself. I don't think we would have won the WC without kohli.
