maaki Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Some of the reasons i think SL ended on the losing side.. 1> Dropping Ajanta mendis 2> Small ground making any chase a probability 3> Slow start in the first 5 overs 4> Critical UDRs review of Samaraweera lbw turns in our favor. This was our last review too so it was a huge gamble, real time it looked like it hit him out side off so was a really brave decision. 5> 4 runs later ZK gets Kapugedera to slow down the momentum until the batting PP 6> 2 missed opportunities on Gambhir (One dropped catch and one run out) 7> Dew making it difficult for spinners to get the ball to turn
maaki Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 Ofcourse there is the classic Slumdog quote.. "Jamal Malik: This is our destiny"
Sir_Afridi Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 SL are final losing specialist. 3 WC losses in 4 years.
maaki Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 That is a testimony to their performance in-spite of not being 2nd best side in all 3 tournaments. They have always performed better than their own abilities SL are final losing specialist. 3 WC losses in 4 years.
vvvslaxman Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Mendis several times pwned by INdia in recent times. He has been a match loser for his team against India. But i see lot of guys going after team for including Murali saying "Is sending off half fit Murali more important than world cup". But if you look at Srilanka they rarely beat India in India these days. They have won only 3 of the last 19 matches against India in India.
Guest Shivani Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 because we never top in exams by cheating :hehe:
zen Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 As I had said on the minnow-bashers thread, it was always going to be tough for SL to beat Ind. Mainly because: 1. No wins against major teams. Basically entered the final by beating a depleted Eng side and two wins against NZ. 2. If you look at their opening batsmen's performance against Pak and Aus, they probably don't even avg 30. 3. The spinners hadn't done that well against sides that play spin well. One of the reasons, why SL focused on playing more seamers against Ind 4. Played on helpful tracks in SL. Mumbai had comparatively more pace and bounce. So it is not easy to come out and beat Ind in Ind. Playing against another team would have been easier 5. IMO, Ind is a better team.
Prakat Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 India was the better team. Our whole was greater than the sum of our parts. You batted first. Mahela made a good 100 that could have made for an imposing target. 275 in a final is still a tough ask. You got Sehwag out for Duck. You got Sachin for under 20. We still made it. End of.
suraj Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 SL didn't lose- it was India that won!!!! Clearly India was determined and talented to counter whatever Lankans brought to the board
VRV Singh Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 The bowling was not good enough.. Their main options bar Malinga went at 6's and 7's without even looking threatening. Pereira's was a lucky wicket after GG's tired swipe. India just needed to see off Slinga..even he towards the end got carted
Prakat Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Why did Sanga's 10 year-old nephew call him yesterday? He wanted some cheats for the latest PS3 Game.

Forget Indian batsmen even pakistani batsmen read him.. Attapattu confirmed this on Sky sports in UK.. They don't play him against India or pakistan if they don't have to. Sri Lanka lost because they are mediocre team compared to India.. Only 2 quality batsmen Sanga and Jaya.. Only 2 quality bowlers Mallinga and Murali.. We match Malinga and murali with Zak and Harbhajan.. and Our batting line up is just too good. Even Sanga said 350 were needed..
