jusarrived Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I might sound racist , but barring a few a huge majority are not comfortable with an Asian side winning , not just India ..for all their rivalry , if given a choice the Poms would still prefer an Oz win over India , Pakistan or SL .

Bumper Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 English media & its ex-cricketers have always touted Ashes as the biggest thing for them, simply because that's about the only thing England could win. I doubt Botham is the voice of England in general, as there are many English cricketers/experts (such as Nasser Hussain, David Lloyd, Boycott etc) who have acked the ascendancy of the Indian cricket team & heaped praise on its cricketers.

Fontaine Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 I've been watching a lot of the sky sports commentary and Gower, Knight (who are regulars) have been routinely hoping for Sachin's century of centuries, even saying that it would be the perfect script if he did it in the finals and won. They've also routinely creditted Zaheer as being one of the best if not the best bowler in the tournament and call Yuvraj/Bhajji all rounders. So no, they're not anti Indian anything.

Mate Nick Knight was well upset after India,s win against Pakistan never in my Life i saw a non Pakistani who was very concerned about Pak he outnumbered Azhar mamu.

I'm pretty sure I heard Knight or Gower mention that any team that drops SRT 4 times deserves to lose. Also in the end Gower asked Azhar who he would want to win in the finals to which Azhar immediately replied Sri Lanka and both Knight/Gower pretty much laughed at him like the clown he is.

Indians are proud of Indian victory. English, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans, West Indians, South Africans, Aussies, NZ Landers and Bangladeshis are jealous of us. I am fine with it.

I remember watching the 2007 WC final and EVERYONE who wasn't Aussie pretty much wanted Lanka to win as the underdogs. It was completely obvious how bored and jealous commentators, pundits etc were of the Aussi dominance. Whereas in this world cup most people have been happy to overjoyed to see Sachin win it even though India have been favorites, test #1 etc etc.

Nick Knight said on more then one occasion he really wanted India to Win the world cup just for Sachin as he deserved it most.. Very touching words from a fellow cricketer... He definitely deserves our respect..

Yes.. it was well funny.. I though Azhar was about to cry.. he did put on a really sad face after we beat Pakistan.. Ajit Agarkar couldn't stop laughing..

Atherton is first class moron, fully of jealousy towards India in its total dominace on and off the field. Its a new world order chumps, deal with it! Even Naseer Hussain..........He seemed so :( when Pakistan lost and when SL scored 275...there was a big grin on his face ...........In the end :finger: he must have been green with envy

Not looking for approvals but wanted to point out an article. English folks are always cynical anyways. "Huge congratulations to this Indian team, who have somehow managed to live up to the expectations of the most demanding cricketing nation in the world. To have 1.4 billion people waiting for you to win the World Cup on home soil is some pressure. I don't normally subscribe to the theory of pressure - it is what makes kettles boil in my book- but I'm happy to make an exception for MS Dhoni and his team, who have been in the spotlight for months until finally they can now relax. They may have been playing at home, but I think for India, winning the World Cup in their own backyard is doing it the hard way. The team could hardly move without some form of encouragement when they did well or some kind of abuse if they did badly. They were under the microscope throughout and handled it so well. And then to come out and play the way they did in the final was just superb. The only thing they got wrong all tournament was Sachin Tendulkar not getting his 100th international hundred, but I think he will be pretty happy with the way things worked out.
