Long discussion and what Mahela and Sanga decide is to handover the ball to Kulasekara. Dude had given close to 50 runs in first 7 overs. On other side, Murali had been really really economical. I think they could have definately added some more pressure with Murali bowling that particular over. I know we were to win anyhow, but these little things do matter

Without his acting skills SL wouldn't have won the toss and we all know what would have happened if India had batted first in the final - the game would have been over even before the halfway stage. All in all Sanga's amazing volte-face at the toss was what made the final close and possibly gave SL the best chance to win. Pity the SL team was so poor they couldn't even capitalize on Sanga's amazing "skills" at the toss :winky:

I know we were to win anyhow, but these little things do matter it was power play dhoni would have smashed for consecutive sixes and also spinners were not able to grip the ball not a bad decision i feel

DomainK Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 I was actually expecting Murali to come in at that time. When the opposition needs 30 off 30, you bring in the best two bowlers and put pressure. May be he feared that Dhoni, who is very good against spin and has played Murali with ease in the past would successfully go after him. Don't forget that the boundary was very small and power play was on.

kabira Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 When you make 4 changes to your winning team of Q/F and S/F, you know you are scared team. One change forced, but other 3 changes were just too much. Indians knew that dew will kick in. They played brilliantly, never panicked. Sanga should have looked for wickets, he should have given a go at Malinga when Dhoni came in. Remember Dhoni got out to pacers most of his WC innings. Murli, Dilshan were not going to trouble him.

Usually the only masterpiece he has is to randomly introduce Dilshan at uneventful moments. He's been critisized many times for his inability to set a decent field.
kabira Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 THey lost game before even entering hte field. They wanted to win the toss at any cost. They batted slowly upfront and their target was 260 runs. Even Dilshan was playing cautiously. They needed to put our bowlers under pressure from word Go, but they were afraid about their weak middle order.

I dont think he is handling the pressure of being an important batsman and a wicket keeper and the captain very well, which is not easy by any means. Just goes to show how tough Dhoni is and how great his contribution to the Indian team is.:hatsoff:

And no one critically analysed his captaincy in this game. Seems like cricinfo had gone all white in glory to see Sanga reach the final and stuff. Had Dhoni screwed up, that Hughes and other whiners would have written long azz articles about how he screwed up blah blah. Talk about being closet India haters :two_thumbs_up:

But within a week, he'll be here, playing the IPL, drinking beer, having fun, earning the $$s and start about how IPL harms his team and blah blah
