Dhoni greatest ever India skipper, says Ganguly

Heard him speak on HT yesterday about the team, the WC win and Dhoni. Every word that he said and what has been reported seemed straight from heart. The jubilation that he had when he talked about how this was a dream and has been achieved by this team was as genuine as it can be. BTW on the same program, Kapil paaji cried again talking about how great this win was and why he thought this was better than the 1983 WC win.

I have a feeling he was just sick of these comparisons between him and Dhoni and just wanted to lay it to rest. Honestly, its useless to compare these two great captains. Each one is great in their own way and contributed a lot to Indian cricket.:two_thumbs_up:

Her perhaps Meant the 2003 WC Final' date=' Dont think Mcgrath, Lee , Gillespie were that Bad as you defined.[/quote'] My bad. I was talking about the 2003/04 test series and not the ODI team. Australia played far better in 2007. They didn't even come close to defeat. In 2003, they played very poorly in a few games.

Sourav Ganguly, India's most winning captain, hailed Mahendra Singh Dhoni as "the greatest ever" to lead the Indian cricket team on Sunday. "There can't be any doubt about it. Dhoni is the greatest captain of our country. His record is proof of that," Ganguly told MiD DAY. "Under Dhoni, India have won the T20 World Cup and the (ODI) Asia Cup. Under his leadership, India have become the No 1 ranked side in Test cricket. And now, we have won the World Cup. Obviously, he is the greatest ever captain to lead India." Ganguly, who led India to the final in the 2003 World Cup, said he knew that Dhoni's men would triumph. "When they beat Australia (in the quarter final) I knew India would win the World Cup. A lot of people thought Sri Lanka would win, but I was confident," he said. The Prince of Kolkata praised Dhoni's match-winning knock of 91 not out in the final. "According to me, Dhoni played his best innings in the final. He played a perfect captain's innings," Ganguly said. Ganguly was impressed by Gautam Gambhir's knock of 97 as well. "Gambhir played brilliantly. First, he ensured there was no further fall of wicket, then he smoothly accelerated the innings. I liked the way he batted," he said. http://sports.ndtv.com/world-cup-2011/news/item/171648-dhoni-greatest-ever-india-skipper-says-ganguly
This. Truly He is not speaking from his heart and being a Hypocryte here. He should have said I expected the team to be out straight after we had played Pakis.

Dada isn't like some fans who wrote off India after the first few matches and called for the captain to be sacked :--D

Why? We are all Indians isnt it? Would Sachin Tendulkar be Hurt if tomorrow some Indian goes on to Break his 200* Odi record? I dont Think so, same with the case of Sourav Ganguly I Think.
That's hardly a reasonable analogy. Sachin has a record. While with this World Cup victory all that the media is focussing on is that Dhoni has won a world cup and therefore how good was Dada in comparison - he has none. The fact that he was sarcastic about that comment doesn't mean that he has ill-will towards Dhoni or that he is petty. It just means that since the 2nd the new yardstick in pop media for successful captaincy has become world cup victory and that will definitely hurt his pride.

There is no sarcasm there dude, get over it. Ganguly like any Indian would have been blown away by this momentous win, if anything the nightmare of the 2003 finals has been erased forever, not just for us but for him as well. :isalute:

I dont think Ganguly would be Bitter simply as i said He knows he is an Indian, and It shows from his Interviews what actually he Felt. BTW When Dhoni won the 20-20 WC Which most of us dont take seriously, He said in an Interview that he sees much of Himself in Dhoni, Those days he was a Player. About being Sarcastic, One would believe he is being Sarcastic only when if you do not Believe Dhoni is the greatest Captain. If one follows Ganguly's Interview Regularly he should know how highly Ganguly Rates Dhoni and This comment wasnt a Surprise at all. When everyone after the Loss to South Africa was being Critical of Dhoni in the Media, He was the One who stood by him. Even Dhoni Mentioned during the WC about this.

He was being sarcastic because of the simplistic way he was being compared now to Dhoni.
