im confused the guy barely touched 140 in south Africa where they have the fastest pitches in the world
you do know that the speed shown on the speed gun has nothing to do with the pitch and will not be affected by whtehr the match is being played in perth, cape town or kolkata right? the speed is measured as soon as the ball is released from the hand and before it touches the pitch. Hence the speed on the speed gun is not affected

There shouldn't be any doubt that Ishant is back in form
It's going to take more than a few overs in IPL cricket to convince me that he's back in top form. He's got a great start, lets see if he can keep it up.

There are players in india who can easily bowl 140+, Munaf was a regular at 150+ on indian tracks when he started, ishant and zaheer similarly were out and out quick when they started too. But the risks of pace v/s longevity on indian pitches made these guys and future speedsters to asses their priority, and hence reduction in pace. In thursday's deccan v RCB game, Ishant was averaging 152+, higher than steyn's average of 145. But the key reason was the pitch, the Hyderabad pitch had a decent smattering of green on top, allowing bowlers to bowl their natural line without breaking their backs for the extra yard. THe greatest fast bowler, Mcgrath was never fast, but a controlled line and length and the ability to vary pace made him the greatest. He was threat on bouncy tracks and dust bowls. Similarly, Steyn's ability to vary his pace makes the no.1 bowler. Steyn rarely bowls 150+ deliveries continuously, he varies it from 135 to 145, and once in a while sneaks in a thunderbolt at 150. A similar tactic Mcgrath used. I believe this is where sree should improve on.

Did anybody see Abu Nechim Ahmad bowl today ? From the commentary it looks he was quick today!! Did anybody see his speed ? what was his average / top speed? 3.5 Ahmed to Manhas, OUT, Nechim, got 'im. Again. Manhas doesn't move the feet and has a wild flail outside off as Nechim keeps it sharp and quick just outside off. This man has gone some pace, and Manhas found out as he was late into the shot. Outside edge carries easily to Rayudu. 5.3 Ahmed to Uthappa, 4 leg byes, huge swing for Nechim, gets one to curve in late as Uthappa shuffles across and makes himself prone for an lbw. But the swing was huge, and it was heading down the leg side. 10.3 Ahmed to Kartik, FOUR, Nechim finds an extra yard now and again, much like Ajit Agarkar it takes the batsman by surprise. Kartik was late on the bouncer and ended up top-edging over the keeper's head

Umesh yadav bowled faster than morkel yesterday... seems to be in 145kmph range consistently and the fastest at 150.7. Morkel bowled the fastest around 148.8kmph. sadly umesh is not learning to bowl accurately, with this pace ,if you are not accurate, you will go for runs, as he did with those small boundaries. But really happy to see his pace touching 150.7, 147+ ,146.6..... good speeds.

umesh yadav seems to have grown stronger this season, maybe the exercising they do these days has helped him build stronger.... Good for him If he stays strong, he might stay away from the injuries a bit. I'm waiting for the day when Ishant,Umesh,Varun bowl on a fast pitch for the indian team, based on the current performances, all can cross 150kmph.. It would be nice to see balls fly from the indians. May go for boundaries , but who cares :) , speed is always exciting to see.

Ishant is a class apart though. When he's in form he can bowl 145+ and still move the ball away off the seam. From what I've seen of Yadav so far, he's pretty fast but seems to bowl dead straight which isn't going to trouble any batsmen.
