Ravi Shastri was also the commentator when Prasad bowled Sohail in the WC Quarterfinal in Bangalore. Shastri is the lucky charm for Indian cricket :hail:

Isn't ravi shastri a close friend of one of the media barons....I don't think it's james Murdoch though ....but obviously he has been a lucky mascot for us much like Sreeshanth
Shastri was close to late Mark Mascrenhas, owner of WorldTel and the man who transformed Sachin in to a billionaire. IIRC Shatri made his debut as a tv commentator for WT during a tri-series in Sri Lanka in 1994..It was in the same series Tendulkar brought up his first ODI century after an agonising wait of 79 matches! Ravi 'obvious' Shastri :hatsoff:

I know it is slow day. in ICF.. :winky: Shastri is lucky to be commentating on some important occasions 1) India vs Pakistan, World T20 final 2007 - When misba scooped the ball 2) India vs Srilanka, World cup fial 2011- When Dhoni hit the six Ravi was the one who was in the com box 3) Yuvraj 6 sixes - balle balle balle !! again Ravi shastri
Yes. I have noticed that too.. Whenever something good happens with Indian team Shastri is on air.. He is our lucky mascot.

I know people here deride him a lot but I actually like Shastri's work.
Likewise.. He was a geunine trier in his playing days. Astute tactician and hard worker who played for the team. And now he is our lucky mascot.

What about the bad moments in Indian cricket guys... does anyone remember who was in the box when: Sachin gets out on his 90s... When India contionously kept losing stupid ODI series finals against SRL again and again.. During the loss at MCG in 2003-04, the nagpur test defeat against Saffers, the debacle in England this year, The 2006 ODI series in windies where they beat us 4-1 after losing the first game, When we lost The 2003 WC final, and some others... Was in none of those matches Ravi was commenting at the end??? Does that mean he schedules his times in the box intentionally after looking at the match situation or is it that we just ignore the games we loose so as to make him a good luck sign for us...huh

Yeah me too... he might utter inane stuff at times but he is someone who puts a lot of heart and emotions into what he does... he's not one who "pretends" to be an expert on everything offering armchair advice and "in my younger days..." stuff every now and then... call him anything but he ain't a fake...

the last I heard he and Gavaskar were paid by the BCCI to speak on its behalf in the commentary box.

And please quote instances of commentary where they've gone out of their way to show their bias? I don't know details of their contractual commitments, but tbh haven't felt that in these two guys' commentary over the last few years or so....

how is any of that fake? isnt a person commenting on the game supposed to be an expert? and i for one love the behind the scene stories people like Boycott, Lloyd or Benaud would tell. Otherwise whats the use, just have a a bunch of soundbites on a soundboard and have a person play them when an event on the field happens. I dont agree that he puts heart and emotions at all, most of the times he is just going through the motions, not trying to come up with anything new. He is a good reader of the game, i think he could do a lot better if he wants. It maybe has to do with the fact that he does so much commentary that you cant possibly expect him to do anything different after a point. Thats why i found it surprising when he had a go at Nasser and co in England, something different from his mouth. Still so much better than the likes of LSRK and Lal Uncle.

Last match he contiously kept giving complements to some guy from the bcci who is also an important member from bcci...dont remember the name... I know that the stadium has improved a lot but to say that on commentry for like that many times naming that person is insane publicity for the guy

He's gone gaga before as well.. not just the BCCI guy but even the curator... come on... let's not nitpick... i want to know how his overall stance and commentating style has underwent a stark change ever since he came under BCCI's payroll... AFAIC BCCI is an organisation running cricket in India, not a political organisation... People won't flock in large nos to watch cricket because the cricket board is making itself look good... and vice versa....

Seriously, Are you an Indian?? I guess not Cause it aint about people or cricket in BCCI... its all about power and the board is divided into five sections.... EAST, WEST, SOUTH, NORTH, CENTRAL And everyone wants their faction in power so that their regional board and stadiums can get maximum benefit from the riches of BCCI
