Not sure that you have edited it properly. Rahul last played in 2009 CT and Ganguly in 2007 Nov-Dec IIRC.:icflove:
1-2 series dooesnt count as he was being played as a cover for our injured players and as for Ganguly 2007 nov. means 2007,so 4 years :--D

No it means as you are crediting Greg Chappel for the Test series win in England is Baseless. Because the Team built by Ganguly and led well by Dravid deserve the credit there. And Ganguly was sacked for his Non performance for the last 3 years, Controversy was not the reason. There have been several times when controversy took place between the Captain and the coach, But no one was sacked.
no I am not giving credit to chappel. I just taking your logic further. As Ganguly-Wright to Dravid-Chappal ganguly won test series in Zimbabwe with won home series loss in 2004 against ozzies..Dravid-Chappal won in WI lost to SA in SA.

Seriously beating a depleted WI side deserves credit? Not even beating a depleted Zim side. The fact that Ganguly deserves credit was not because of the results only, Because he laid the foundation of Team India, He made a brand new team with a group of Youngsters and achieved results, pretty much what MSD Did in CB series. And Dravid deserves credit for his selfless performance over the years for India, How ungrateful you people are, dont forget Dravid's double tons, Tons. Without his batting we wont have achived anything away from home. The main reason of Ganguly's sucessful tenure as a leader was Rahul's success abroad.

@ Dhon Zone, The Oz dont give credit to Mark Taylor, but Allan Border. Ganguly is our Allan Border.
Ya agreed :two_thumbs_up: But I dont agree with this nonsense of crediting our past (ODI) legends for our WC victory

I would say everyone from 2003 to today, whose ever captained India deserves some credit. And Greg Chappell deserves some too, for maybe there could be a "revenge-is-a-motivation" angle to this. The unsung hero for India must be Lalchand Rajput. He took over in a very tough time, won us a World Cup when no one gave us a shot, won us the CB Series and we did a great job under him. Lets start with giving this guy some credit.

why not. It is under Ganguly that the core of this team (Yuvi, Zak, Bhajji, Viru etc) took shape, so whats the problem in crediting him.

Please dont start this again  ,then one can say give Azhar some credit for our no.1 ranking in test matches coz under him Sach,Dada,Dravid and Kumble took shape

Dhoni does seem to know how to lead a squad through a campaign better than most others. He has led a team of relatively inexperienced youngsters, the current senior+youth line-up and a team with players from different countries through different tournaments with roughly 10 competing teams and won it.

Why no credit to Azhar? Sachin, Kumble, Dada, Dravid, VVS, Bhajji, Nehra, even Sehwag made their debuts under him. He promoted all these talented players in their tough times. What an eye for talent!!:giggle:

They forced their ways in to the side with consistent domestic performances season after season. I Still remember After making a Fantastic debut at lords both Sourav and Dravid used to be in and out of the ODI side pretty regularly until they made a place of their own with Consistent international performances. Where as Sourav Used to back players like Yuvraj, Sehwag, Zak I wont bring Harbhajan here because his chapter needs to be discussed separately. Despite inconsistent showing Sourav sticked with them. Where as during Azhar's days someday Dravid was batting at No 3, someday Sourav was batting at 3. They werent allowed to settle at all. Azhar did his best to keep both of them away as much as he could, I believe Dravid and Sourav should have made their debut much before they got the chance, It was 96 semifinal loss to Lanka Management was forced to give them a Look in. Any reason why Sourav got one game in 92 and he was dropped? and despite consistent showing in domestic cricket he couldnt made his way back before 96? Do not bring in attitude issues and all, because thats where a True Leader stands out, he is supposed to bring the best out of a player keeping aside attitude issues and all. Exactly what Dhoni is doing now, Sourav did then. Ever heard Azhar brining a player straight into facing words best side who had been expelled from NCA? Any such case? Goddy and Kumble are once in a Gneration player, Goddy is much higher to that. So Azhar not dropping him doesnt make a Case of Backing Tendulkar. And one more thing during 96 when Sourav and Dravid made their Debut both were Finished products from domestic cricket, Rather Raw materials of Under 19 or Under 21 cricket. There is the difference between Sourav and thats why Azhar doesnt deserve a Credit.

The team today is quite the opposite of Azhar's teams. The 90s were statistically a good period for our team but considering almost all our big wins came at home, I actually think we took a step back under Azhar. The contrast between how we played at Vijaywada vs a Perth or Adelaide back then is astounding. Not the case anymore. We bring it wherever we go.

DO you want to say Sachin and Azhar as a captain did regionalism and played players from their zone. What rubbish? Captain can only vote, but cannot select the team. Its the selectors who select the player because of their performance, not captain. Captain do not go and watch the FC matches and chose them. Sehwag was demolishing every attack in FC cricket at that time. Zak was the fastest bowler in domestic circuit. Yuvraj had shown talent since the U19. Harbhjana was also taking wickets in FC. They were not sudden selection. Many selection were failed to. Would you blame ganguly for their failures? No! because captain can just play them, cannot perform for them. Its their talent which takes them ahead. Likes of Sodhi, Dinesh Mongia, Badani, Tinu Yohanan, Ikbal Siddiqui, Das, and many more were selected during Ganguly's captaincy and the failed. So failure ratio is more then success.
Azhar was a pretty weak captain. He may not have gone for his player but he never did anything to stop zonal selections either. Ganguly at least took the selectors head on and made sure players he backed made it to the team irrespective of the region they belonged to. I can't even think of one player/youngster Azhar backed. As for Tendulkar we did see Kambli getting so many chances when Tendulkar was the captain but like Azhar you will find hard to find a single youngster/player Tendulkar backed to the hilt and who repaid the faith. With Ganguly he backed the likes of Harbhajan and Yuvi even though the selectors wanted to drop them and thought these players had attitude problems but Ganguly stuck to his guns and look how things have turned out!
