http://www.hindustantimes.com/Hazare-backs-Raj-s-tirade-against-Non-Marathis/Article1-368036.aspx Hazare backs Raj's tirade against Non-Marathis  :hahaha: Date: 2009 Veteran social activist Anna Hazare backs Maharashtra Navnirmaan Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray's campaign against non-Marathi 'Dadagiri' (dominance) in Maharashtra, but opposes the violent means being used to achieve the purpose. The 71-year-old social activist expressed support for MNS's programme, while talking to journalists Saturday night after addressing students of the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) on 'Gram Swaraj and Experience in Ralegan', his native village in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra which he transformed into a model village through persistent efforts. "Some ideas of Raj Thackeray were correct, but damaging public and national property was not right," Hazare said. When asked which ideas of the MNS chief were correct, Hazare noted people from many states live in Maharashtra, but "outsiders trying to prove their dominance in the state was not at all acceptable". In a reference to North India-based political parties like Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal trying to show their strength in Maharashtra by holding rallies and other programmes in the state, he said such activities were not acceptable. "They have ample space in their states to hold such programmes," he noted. When asked to comment on attacks by MNS activists on students from Bihar who had gone to Mumbai to appear in railway recruitment exams, Hazare said: "I do not support everything Raj Thackeray does. If violent means are adopted by MNS, it will not be in interest of a united India." "We need to work for unity of the country and not for its disintegration through violence against innocents," he added.

If this is not a motivated smear campaign against Anna' date=' then Anna is going to lose all the respect he gained from the public.[/quote'] Dude, it is not motivated. The news is from 2009 :woot:

I for one has never been convinced with Anna and felt him to be a bit dodgy character. Normally a patriotic Indian who is really interested about the nation would instantly ring my inner chords but even after all the hype Anna never ever make me feel that he is that genuine. I support his campaign overall but I always felt him to be a dodgy character. The first comparison to Gandhiji by the so called intellectuals was ridiculous. Gandhiji would never take the whole media and hog national limelight with all cameras focused on him. His movement was more like a media movement than the mass movement which it was mentioned as. I still doubt he is genuine and feel that he is more interested in some limelight rather than a Gandhian movement. If he is not ready to accept North Indians as part of Maharastra as mentioned in the above post then I have every reason to doubt his patriotic chords. He should not be sitting in North India and hogging limelight if he feels Indians are not one.

Important thing we have to remember is we should be least interested about the character of Anna Hazare but the initiative by him to legislate lokpal bill in-spite of guised opposition by successive governments. Problem is motivated media never fails to dig up something bad, thereby lessening the intensity of the protest. This will be hot topic in the media for another 2-3 days , some north indian politicians will attack him , thereby successfully breaking the mass protest for lokpal bill and then it will be pushed indefinitely.

As I mentioned earlier I am not against Jan Lokpal Bill and it is a great initiative though might not materialize fully in the long run. But this is not a mass movement but a media movement and comparing a media movement to a Gandhian movement is ridiculous. To be frank the people who are supporting the movement are the so called educated elite going on hunger strikes or candle light protests etc. so that they can be captured by media. But do you see the poor in the remote villages of India moving for it. NO. If it was the poor from the remote villages of India going on hunger strikes instead of the media-savvy elite then I would have said it to be people's movement and a mass movement. Media created this movement and knows that it is a recipe of success in TRP ratings and so they are supporting it so that they get breaking news every couple of minutes.

What's the basis of this so called 'dadagiri' ? Is there a higher percentage of crimes committed by non-Marathi folks ? A rally or two hardly matters.

this is from corrupt media trying to defame Anna now .
no.. it is not .. Anna's movement was a media movement and nothing else.. why would they kill the duck which is laying them golden eggs .. check the dates .. the article is from 2009 .. I hate media to be frank but that is a baseless allegation .. infact Anna is being by used media as a tool to garner some TRP and Anna is hogging all limelight at the same time

So he doesn't want random regional parties crashing into Maharashtra state politics and that he wants to express his unhappiness about that without resorting to violence. Don't see any problem with that. National level corruption needs any voice and if he had kept his protests just to Maharashtra it is the rest of the country which would have been left out. Not sure why the biatching when you got someone who is helping us with this monster called corruption.

Why?? If these "random regional parties" will never go into other states how will these parties grow? Also, why is it that only people from Maharashtra have problems with political parties from other states coming into Maharashtra - I don't see many other states complaining that parties from other states are coming and establishing themselves in their states.

I kind of agree with you. Earlier I also thought that it was a "mass movement" but then after seeing the media coverage over the last few days I've realised that its anything but that. Now these candle marches have become a new way for the media to increase their TRPs - in fact on many occasions I've seen media houses themselves arrange these marches and then show them on their own channels/newspapers.

A comment from one of my colleagues: Exactly what the Lok Pal bill is doing is to add layers of Government to watch others in Government. We need less Government, not more. What is required is a simplified Government with lesser discretionary powers, not Lok Pal.
