akshayxyz Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 No political situation does effect but some of these thing can be fixed in no time. Its the complete unwillingness to sort things out that is hurting us. Did not see this - but as i said - whatever small changes you make with cricketing bodies - they will not last for long, will not guarantee consistent progress over long term. Unless people of Pakistan have guts to take it to Govt to start working on Country's growth and not other's destruction. And that will start at the individual and grass root level - by cleansing the thinking process and goals to start with.
vvvslaxman Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 * when you ban somebody make sure ban is in place for the stipulated period * when you ought to punish, don't let them get away * when you make a mistake accept it like a man instead of going around blaming others. It was disgusting to see the entire pakistan contingent were blaming Chris Broad after the shooting incident. * Do not allow any of players or administrators to talk to press unless it is absolutely necessary. * Do not accuse anyone without any proof * Do not ask for proof when the crime is so freaking obvious. * Don't make gazillion U turns in anything you do ( applies to players, administrators) .... these are some of the few coming on top of my mind.
akshayxyz Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 ^^@vvvslaxman True, but then superficial. That still is not grass root change. As in these are symptoms of something deep, not the actual problem itself. The problem trickles from fundamental problems in mentality/attitude at grass root levels. Unless those are fixed, these will keep dragging back any step their cricket tries to take forward by itself.
akshayxyz Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 In 80s Pakistan was rules by a dictator but cricket team was doing well.Up until late 80s cricket was more of an an urban sport with most top cricketers coming from educated backgrounds.Guys like AH Kardar,Fazal Mehmood,Mohammed brothers,Majid,Asif Iqbal,Wasim Raja and Imran all came from educated backgrounds and We were doing fine. After that Miandad six and emergence of Ws along with Imran who was the biggest sport star cricket became a craze in poor/rural areas through media exposure.Balances of power shifted from Karachi and Lahore to small town and next crop were as educated and did not have the upbringing of the generation before. These guys could not handle fame and stardom. Whatever worked for you in 80s, was probably because our system was not as developed as it is now. And individual brilliance from your side was able to negate the effects of not-so-useful govmt. But looking at recent history - Do you think it is mere coincidence that every other country with stable economy/govt has stable system of sports/cricket? The sooner your public start acknowledging fundamental problems and start working on them, the faster ( and more consistent and stable) progress you will get to see on all fronts, and not just cricket.
Bublu Bhuyan Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 The most important thing that they need to do is kick out any player who spreads groupism or creates mess within the team, irrespective of how good or talented the player is. Guys like Malik (accused by team management of destroying the moral of the dressing room), Umar Akmal (accused of faking an injury), and any such player should be either banned permanently or given a very long suspension. Any player having agenda or selfish motives within the team should be wiped out from the team like insects. It's these termites that has been eating away the team since Inzamam's retirement.
ravishingravi Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I think pretty much everything has been covered in terms of solution. I am with Akshay on geo political and economic situation in Pakistan and its effect on cricket. I think institutions have been systematically dismantled to a point where no can account for the other. I think 80s should not be confused with current issues. Firstly, Pakistan had one of the greatest leaders ever who was able to tap players outside the system, back them and nurture. Second, nothing in Pakistan's history has been as bad as last decade both politically and economically. I think it is bound to effect cricket. Utal Filth, this is my personal observation but country has just fallen into a habbit of falling sorry for itself, of treating itself as God's own people who are being targetted by the entire world. This has to change. To this extent, I agree with posters that the mentality needs to evolve Btw there are serious issues with India and BCCI, just that good things happening in the country are eclipsing the flaws.

Very good op from you.. Totally agree with most points there.. You are the first pakistani supporter I have come across who is not in denial.. So well done to you. coming back to the point raised in this particular post.. Its not quite true that guys from small towns couldn't handle fame and stardom. Look at indian players in last few years. . They are richer then pakistani cricketers wildest dreams but most of them have their feet firmly grounded. Quite a few players have come from small towns and they are doing much better job of handling fame, money and stardom. For example. Pathan brothers, Raina, pravin kumar, etc..

But don't hold your breath.. Ball eater/pitch dancer is a captain.. In fact Imran wanted Afridi to take over test captaincy too. Basically you reap what you saw.. I am not very optimistic about pakistan cricket teams chances of turning things around.
Sir_Afridi Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Put more money in the lowest level of cricket and not make only the international players heavily paid while others are given meagre wages (applies to BCCI also) Wheres the money gonna come from??PCB hardly breaks even with all these neutral venue series. Pak needs series with India for big profits to invest in domestic circuit. Before IPL came India were regularly playing with Pakistan for the same money reasons. Now BCCI have IPL so they dont needs PCB. :((

Superficially it means, either no one useful is available from bench or system is too fked up. But think couple of more levels deeper (why(why(why(no one on bench or system is not right)))), and you shall see the light.
ravishingravi Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 ^According to some sources from you know where, there are paying Miandad 8,00,000p.m. , Younis 7,50,000 p.m. Ijaz Butt had declared that they are making profits.
veer Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 i know you said not to bring in politics and religion in this discussion.. but lot of the problems are inter-related.. you can not solve pakistan's issues without cleaning your education system and education system is deeply connected with religion.. either that or IF you want to clean up pakistan cricket issue only then bring in Imran Khan since he is the only guy who you guys respect and fear whole heartedly..

Pak needs series with India for big profits to invest in domestic circuit. Before IPL came India were regularly playing with Pakistan for the same money reasons. Now BCCI have IPL so they dont needs PCB. :(( may be pakistan can try to improve the economy first. and then create pakistani premier league .. As it stands guys like Ambani have more money then entire foreign reserves of pakistan. Hundred million that he paid for Mumbai Indian's is a loose change for him. You won't be able to build a commercially successful league like IPL with no money.. But wait, for that you need a stable country. May be this revolution that is spreading in middle east will reach pakistan in 5 years time.. Things may improve after that. What pakistan needed was a proper functioning democracy after independence.. That may have helped. Instead you have had succession of dictators. You need to start with proper functioning democracy. Trim powers of ISI. Pakistani players may have been playing in IPL if it wasn't for mumbai terror attacks. Things like that along with attack on sri lankan team isn't helping pakistan cricket either.

And then couple of more levels of why, and you shall see the light.
ganeshran Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I agree with veer here. Imran Khan should be heading the PCB. He has the political experience and cricketing skills too.

But think couple of more levels deeper (why(why(why(no one on bench or system is not right)))), and you shall see the light. Deep rooted problem in the psyche.. Even now you see most pakistani supporters supporting Afridi's ball eating attempt because " he did it for the team".. he is honest.. How stupid is that reasoning.. " He cheated because he was doing it for the country so he must be honest. ". OP of this thread is in minority. He is one of the few who admitted that convicted cheater is a captain. By having Afridi as a captain what kind of message is being sent to budding cricketers of pakistan? Its ok to cheat if you do it to win matches for your country..
saket123 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Pakistan as a society .. is yet to embrace the path of progress. Unless that happens.. societal turmoils are bound to spill over a government body such as the PCB.. and things are bound to fail. First step in my opinion.. is for PCB to get privatized.

I'm sure that India and Pakistan would be playing a lot more if it wasn't for the recent problems. That isn't because of a need but just that Pakistan is another team that India would have to play according to the FTP.
