Do you think we deserve a tag of "bad fielding side" anymore?

I admit we started tournament with sloppy fielding , but hardly dropped catches or easy chances. but as soon as we reached QF , our fielding was certainly a big advantage. with not letting opponents settle for singles , we were mounting pressure . thats how clarke and younis khan got out. Raina at cover was amazing , yuvi in the finals was superb, Kohli as well. apart from that everyone was throwing their bodies even sachin zaheer and sehwag were class. In our side everyone has got flat fast throw barring munaf and nehra. Everyone gives 110% when match gets into crunch situation. with couple of good young additions , we will be one of the best fielding sides if not the best and we don't deserve a tag of bad fielding side anymore. Do you agree?

Compared to England, Australia, SA and most test nations or even Ireland, our fielding sucks. That's because of a few players like Zaheer, Munaf, Nehra, Bhajji who may pick up their fielding on special days like the WC KO matches like you mentioned, but they wont be able to do that regularly because of injuries and lack of fitness and practice. India's catching has always been quite decent but when we play against SA or Aus, the fielding makes a difference of up to 20 to 30 runs.

Agree with this. All credit to our fielders for fielding brilliantly when it mattered, but on the whole its not great because of 3-4 weak fielders.

I still have goose bumps when I remember our fielding in the finals, that was one of the most finest dispalys of fielding by our fielding side in the last ten years. What an effort from the boys :isalute:

Good catching unit. Poor groundfielding unit when compared to NZ' date='RSA,Aus,[b']Lanka,Eng.
Lanka!!! You seriously expect us to believe that! SL dropped 4 catches in Q/F or S/F and was lucky they were playing Eng/NZ else they would have lost. As for their fielding performance in the final we all saw what happened :haha: I know Pakis can't force themselves to write anything good about India but is it too much to ask to stick to facts? Other than 2-3 guys lankan fielding is pretty ordinary.

By the way 8 of your paki players make sachin look like 20 years old when it comes to fielding. 4 catches. but its ok ,, it won't be patriotic for you if you'll write anything good for India.

As soon as we had Raina on one side and Kohli on the other the fielding looked super aggressive. Not a great side but not a bad side...Average side fielding. Good fielders: Yuvi, Kohli, Raina, Dhoni Ashwin.

India's fielding was top class in the KO matches. Both our catching and ground fielding was superb. However, it might take more than just three matches to shake off that tag.

India's fielding in test matches is one of the best in the world. What matters more in tests is safe and good catching, rather than saving the odd boundary with dives and India has one of the better close in catchers in Dravid, Laxman, Tendulkar, Sehwag, Pujara and a safe wicketkeeper in Dhoni. In ODIs and T20s we have a long way to go before competing with the likes of Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand.

Herschel Gibbs dropped one catch and he was told "You dropped the world cup". Pakistanis dropped 4 catches. Probably means next 4 world cups :yay: It sure cost them the SF

Changes required at grassroots level. When you have 21 yr kids like Varun Aaron jog at grandfather like speed around the field with no enthusiasm, then something is REALLY wrong and the fielding culture needs an overhaul.

Why would you use the example of a hit and giggle league (in your own words) where players lack passion and don't give their 100%.

^ Varun Aaron is no established superstar. So given that it is a chance for him to showcase himself, the least one would expect from such youngsters is to be enthusiastic in the field. I can understand bowling or batting skills need more development, but lacking eagerness while fielding? That is a LOL! This is not abt V.Aaron - it is about the culture of fielding that is still severely lacking in youngsters. Thats why it needs a grassroots change.
