There are already 1000+ comments spewing bile. Nasreen seems to become the right wing's adopted daughter whenever she speaks out against Islam but is discarded as soon as she applies the same yardstick to Hindu godmen. Taslima has always been an atheist and against organized religion. I don't see any incitement to violence/hatred in her statements. Whatever happened to freedom of speech? :dontknow: MUMBAI: Taslima Nasreen, the controversial writer of Bangladeshi origin, has advised the cricketing world's god, Sachin Tendulkar, not to pray for Sathya Sai Baba, who passed away on Sunday morning. Sunday, April 24, was Tendulkar's birthday, but the cricketer, who is an ardent devotee of Sai Baba, had said on Saturday that he was cancelling his birthday celebrations and praying for Baba. Nasreen, who is known more for the controversies chasing her than her literary skills, has been retweeting comments poking fun at Sai Baba. She retweeted a comment: "why shud somebody be sad abt his death. he was 86, shud b allowed to die. i was so dissappointd with sachin praying. crazy!" Earlier in the day, Nasreen tweeted a cheeky remark: "Satya Saibaba died. He said he would die in 2022. But he died too early." "Hope no one will try to conceal small pellets of ashes at the base of their fingers. Then use their fists to powder the pellets and produce the flow of ash," went her next tweet. Many of the retweets were attacks on Sai Baba, calling him a cheat and trick master. There were some that poked fun at godmen in general. Some of the comments Taslima retweeted were: "Rasogollas and pumkins did not come from the fists." "There is another baba in the making. the kid is just 5 to 6 years old his training will take some time." "One godman gone but a thousands others will surface what a pity the bhakti business is quite lucrative." One tweet reacted to her comment and took a potshot at her, saying good players are not necessarily "free thinkers". Nasreen became famous when she started getting death threats from Islamic fundamentalists in her homeland, Bangladesh, when she criticized Islam in her books. She fled Bangladesh in 1994 and has since lived in many countries.

ravishingravi Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 ^I am aware of incarnation of Sai Baba. And you are right about Lord Shiva too with "snakes in his hair", but not sure how many took it seriously. Either way my point was his basic preachings and discourse was not affiliated to any religion.

My parents are original Sai Baba devotess......... why do people jump on the Sathya Sai Baba bandwagon when the original Sai Baba was just as 'good'? Why was there a need to have another Sai baba? The original Sai Baba seemed to have much more simplistic views and philosophies and didnt too much bs magical wonders..... I maybe wrong in my perceptions, but I am open to your views.

Many rookie godmen lose out because they never get the initial following to build a strong trust on. With the Sai baba brand, Sathya Sai baba would atleast have recognition to build the initial base of followers.

IKnowU..I'm amazed to find "educated" people being his followers..If you take the cricketers, Vishy, Sunny, Vengy, VVS, RD, Sachin etc are his ardent followers..I could be like Tableeghi Jamaat..Anwar influencing Inzy to join the Jamaat..Sunny influencing Sachin to become Sathya Sai devotee..and so on.. Good that Sathya Sai passed on the "wrist tricks" to all the wristy batsmen like Vishy, Sunny, VVS, RD, Sachin etc. :giggle:

And I think we as Indians should personally have no issues with anyone being a follower of a "Godman". Its an individuals choice. As for the OP, Freedom of speech in India is directly proportional to the people who might be affected by the person's choice of words.

Its like an extreme thing at times. People get a bit overboard and carried away. The end result is the bhakt feels hurt when he comes to know that the Godman was a thug, but all we can do is advice them. On a personal note, Deity worship is fine. Infact, it is great. Worshiping a living "deity" to me would mean my parents.

I mean in this century, nobody's seen him doing miracles..That's why the second became popular by doing 'live miracles'.. PC Sorcar (one of the fiercest critics of Sathya Sai) could do all the 'live tricks' but he didn't booked the "Sai Baba domain name".. It doesn't takes much to make a fool if gullible Indian people..I mean the politicians are doing the same thing..
