Prakat Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 halka fulka literature :dontknow: harr school mein literature and language classes alag hoti hain :nervous: :cantstop: oh ya. we had a separate class for grammar so i guess the other was literature. it was where we read abridged classics (mostly dickens).

I had them - English Language and Literature used to be two different classes and even separate exams in ICSE. It's another thing that I disagree with the idea and feel one should feed the other.

It's another thing that I disagree with the idea and feel one should feed the other. Yes. I was in an ICSE school for grade 9th and 10th. For the 10th standard board exams we had two English papers. But I believe this was the practice only for 9th and 10th. Find it odd that children had 2 English papers from 6th to 8th ( as claimed earlier by Shivani and Pravin). Thats what surprised me. Before that I was in a state board where we had just 1 English paper. I disagree with the idea too. Just too many subjects.
The Outsider Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 ^ Our school was too a.nal about preparing us for the Board exams (specially English) and went to the extent of teaching the Merchant of Venice in class 8 (in Shakespeare language). :D

The grammar classes were from xavier's cal. the last book we read in class 6 there was the Tale of Two Cities. It was Great Expectations the year before that - highly inappropriate content for a classroom of 10 year-olds. I remember we used to have Gulmohar textbooks.... @Outsider lol about the Merchant of Venice in ur 8th.

We were told if you want to score big,keep it simple! :P They said that the examiners are firstly paid peanuts,plus they are overloaded with work and deadlines.. so if you write all big they get annoyed ! :D And its true,I got a 90 and apna class ka shakespeare k 82:giggle: saala angrez ki aulaad school mein tou top kar gaya,per kha gaya na maar boards mein ! :icflove:

I always used to write the essay at the very end. Use simple words for the negining of the paper to keep the examiner happy and then he reached the end, saw the big words and was pissed off :D but they usually gave me high marks in language.
