ViruRulez Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rejected an informal request by the Indian team for greater rewards for winning the World Cup. BCCI president Shashank Manohar had announced that each member of the 15-man squad would receive Rs 1 crore, while the support staff would get Rs 50 lakh. But a couple of days after the victory, a few players asked for more. The players were demanding Rs 5 crore each, said a senior BCCI official. A top India player, on condition of anonymity, argued the team’s position: “If you see, only the top players benefit, and there is no doubt that we earn more than anybody, but what about players like Munaf Patel and others? These players make the Indian team and the BCCI earns so much because of them.†“We are not greedy for the money,†said the top cricketer. “But these (junior) players have made the BCCI rich and famous. There is no harm in asking for more especially since the Board will earn thousands of crores after India’s victory. A player’s life is very uncertain. Who knows what will happen next?†The players also think that some members of the support staff might have got too much for doing very little. “Gary (Kirsten) and Paddy (Upton) getting Rs 50 lakh is fine. But even the logistics manager getting Rs 50 lakh? By that yardstick we should be getting more,†said the player. BCCI secretary N Srinivasan was unavailable for a comment. But another top official said, “Do you think these players really need to be given so much money? One crore is not a small amount.†http://www.indianexpress.com/news/cricketers-wanted-bigger-reward-for-world-cup-win-board-said-no/778512/ Sounds like masala news but found it in two websites i.e. Indian Express and Zee News and both deal less in masala news. So, not sure whether to believe the news or not. But very bad from players if they were demanding 5 crores each instead of the 1 crore each BCCI announced. The other Indian athletes from various sports do not even get to earn 1 crore in their whole life and cricketers earn in a month or so even if we take case of IPL. They are anyways filthy rich and they should be more concerned about bringing laurels for the nation instead of running for more and more money. Real bad news if is true.
NareshK Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 BCCI earns thousands of crores in revenue because of these players. Do you think people would have turned up to watch IPL if India crashed out of the World Cup ? 5 crores is not much considering the money BCCI makes. BCCI is being petty IMO.
vvvslaxman Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Give me atleast 10 lakhs. I didn't even move from one place during final.
cowboysfan Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 interesting, the player get pittance compared to BCCI.for example the NFL shares its revenue equally among players and owners(although they are in lockout right now) of 9 billion dollars every year.the players should get more(especially players who play for the state teams). edit-i strongly feel that the players should form an union, thry have leverage now.
ganeshran Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Guys keep winning and we will support your every move :protest:
straight.drive Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 That's an arrogant demand from players. They are a product of a system called Indian cricket and not the other way around. The mindless individual worship by the fans and media has got to the head of our players.

Cricket Tragic Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Yeah, I'm sure that players would tell the media about this. Besides, I think that Indian players are under-paid. Money from state govts is a different matter though.
straight.drive Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 why is it arrogant? they just won the wc after 28 years' date='5 crores each is nothing for the bcci.[/quote'] The quoted statement is definitely arrogant. The BCCI is rich and famous due to the epic fanfare for the game among us, and not because of few individuals. The arrogance not so much about the cash, but largely regarding the reason for such a bounty. Apparently some of them think that Indian cricket survives because of them.
Params7 Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I'm with the players. ICC isn't independent, the game is controlled entirely by the boards who want to make as much profit possible for themselves. Even though some TV deals for cricket get sold in mindboggling numbers, International cricket players are beggars compared to other sports professionals. Being a state baseballer in USA is 10000x times more wealthy than being an International cricket who just won the World Cup.
anotherhawkeye Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 BCCI is not a for-profit corporation. It's not like they take the profit and give it to the CEO. They use the extra money to spread the cricket in the country so that more munafs and dhonis can be identified and given opportunities. Players asking for 5 crores (IF true) is unfair. 1 crore is a lot of money. IPL is for earning money, playing for the country should be for pride.

LOL @ BCCI being a non-profit using the extra money to spread cricket :giggle:
Params7 Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=6391145 Its without endorsements, but even at base salary, its a shame soccer players from 3rd world unknown countries make Dhoni's base salary look like pocket change lol
