Bradman99: India is not there yet. Remember till about 10 years -- the f'ing coaches almost always had their Point of View -- completely enforced, usually leading to allegations of nepotism -- rightly or wrongly. With foreign coaches -- at least -- we can safely assume he is neutral and is doing for the best of the team. Now I am not alleging that Robin and Prasad are bad. In fact I love Robin, but I am afraid they have not been exposed to Coaching Ethics -- from a professional coaching manual -- enough to do the job good enough. Not to mention -- a lot of wannabe local coaches are looking up at Kirsten and Wright and are saying -- oh yeah we need to do this to be successful. Now as more and more times they are getting denied the opportunities -- the more they will strive harder to match up to these foreign coaches. This in itself will improve the "Coaching System" in India. Give it time, may be about another 10 -15 years. Not to mention -- Pure Clean Hearted guys like Ganguly, Kumble Prasad, Srinath will have to establish themselves start dictating terms to the Board and hopefully will draw the line as to how the Indian Cricket should proceed forward. These guys will be followed by SRT (hopefully he gets involved in Indian Cricket), Dravids and Laxmans -- who even after they retire will continue to be involved in the planning of Indian Cricket going forward. We did not have guys like these before.
Why? Midget was barelay a captain, now you want him to screw us over as coach? Seriously man wake up.

Fair enough. Maybe I don't understand the situation with India enough to comment. It's just always been of my opinion that it's nice for the coach of the team to be of that nationality. However' date= maybe I was outta line here, don't understand enough about the situation.
Leaving India aside for a moment, surely for any coaching position you want to hunt from the widest pool possible? If a foreign coach is the best available candidate its better to go for him, isn't it? Sometimes foreigners can bring in a perspective that is lacking in a team and holding them back. England have had success under Fletcher and Flower while they really struggled under Englishman Moores, for example.

However, I honestly believe that the coach should have to be of the nationality of the country he is coaching. Why should another country get to benefit from someone who is not of their nationality? It sort of doesn't make any sense. Hiring an Indian as coach may encourage other Indian's to get out there and give it a go as well.. For example, I could see somebody like Kumble being a great great coach.. However, as I've been alerted to there are issues with India which maybe put a bit of a stumbling block on this..

Son, it's called globalisation. Get past the narrow parochial thinking, you are living in a different world. Going forward all these nationalities etc won't even mean anything. Look at the big picture. PS: Would you also say that you should marry within your own nationality? Just curious.

It is possible he can be a consultatn or somehting but the man is simply not a strategist and shouldn't be considered as a coach etc. If that's what you mean I agree.

Their comments make some sense to me. As I said in the other thread, a professional coach like Fletcher might fire both ways. Either he would be a worse coach than even Chappel or he might turn to be a better coach than even Gary. Only time will tell. A coach with too much coaching certificates and strictness hardly works for our team but will need to see how this goes. Hope that it works well.

Never though anyone can make a more retarded statement than BS Bedi. But Sunny did it!

"Someone like Amarnath would have been a better choice for the simple reason that the core of the India team today is from the Hindi-speaking belt," he told the NDTV news channel.
I would also like a home grown coach. I know most of the past attempts have been failures, but someone like a Sandeep Patil, V Prasad or M. Amarnath might just work out.

Again' date=' what are Amarnath's credentials as a coach ?[/quote'] What was Kirsten's coaching credentials when he was appointed?

Amarnath was Bangladesh's coach for a brief while in the mid 90s before he fell out with the board after he complained the players were not putting in enough effort in training and lack of professionalism.

^^ Wasn't he running his own coaching academy?
Yea he opened an academy, but I am not sure if he really coached even any of their FC teams. :dontknow:

Not judging Amarnath. Mine was actually a serious question about what teams did he coach before. Because he seems to be a default whenever there's a discussion on an Indian coaching Team India. I mean what did he do apart from applying for the coaching position the last time around?

Having Indian as a coach has its advantage as well as disadvantages...but a good Indian coach >good Foreign Coach for an Indian team. Now Lalchand Rajput did a good job with Robin Singh and V Prasad during Aus tour 2008 and T20 WC 2007, but god knows why they were dumped after that. I still believe it is the Team 85% and Coaching 15%.

Look as long as South India is a part of India we can never have an Indian coach. It is better to have a neutral foreigner.
Please elaborate. I'm not familiar with this whole North-South divide. Which states are considered to be South India (the ones that make up the South Zone in the Duleep Trophy)?
