The Outsider Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Don't [play daft with me, you read what that guy said and this inherent bigotry is what I pointed out. If you want to hide your head in the sand and say it doesn't exist I am fine by it. Can you actually say with a 100% confidence that there is no bigotry between people of the north and south of India? Yeah, in a cricketing set up where everyone is Indian, it's just the presence of a foreign coach who is safeguarding Tamil interests.
Guest Gunner Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 So going by that line of thought, foreign captains are next logical step?? Have foreign coaches if you think they are capable but to say that we can't have indian coaches 'coz of regional divide is utter crap. As of now indian cricket set-up looks professional enough to give equal chance to all players. Coach or captains can't do much about that. I never said it was the only reason to have a foreign coach, that would be a very narrow role description. I am saying tht neutrality of foreign coaches is highly helpful in defending the interests of the minorities against the mobs from the north.
The Outsider Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 You will never know if he would become another Tendulkar if he was dropped after playing only 2 tests despite having an average of 62 + in domestic cricket, can you ? Compare that to the chances Yuvraj got in Tests despite his pathetic performances. I rest my case. Badrinath is a garbage player against pace bowling - anyone who is not biased and has seen him bat against Steyn, Lee and Johnson will gladly acknowledge it.
Guest Gunner Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Yeah' date=' in a cricketing set up where everyone is Indian, it's just the presence of a foreign coach who is safeguarding [b']Tamil interests. I said southern and I mean all five states unless Goa wants to be considered northern.
NareshK Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Badrinath is a garbage player against pace bowling - anyone who is not biased and has seen him bat against Steyn' date=' Lee and Johnson will gladly acknowledge it.[/quote'] He didnt face Steyn, Lee when he was dropped from Tests. So I dont know how that could be a reason. Besides, he has done quite well in IPL where he faced the pacers you mentioned. So there's not much truth in your claim that he is not good against pace.
The Outsider Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 I said southern and I mean all five states unless Goa wants to be considered northern. I don't see other southern states playing the victim card, so no need to drag them into your insular arguments.
yoda Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 There is no question that Indians are regional minded. You will it see from the posts of most here. Yes there are some exceptions, but for most part it is my region first before my country . Some show it by supporting those from their region, others do it by constantly blasting players from regions they seem to have a special hate for and some do both. But you do expect better from a guy like Sunny who has captained guys like L. Siva. For him to say that a Hindi speaking coach would be better, he is basically saying I am no better than some of the posters on this board. Badri is a classic case of hate from non-Southies who for some reason can't even fathom giving a guy who has piled up FC runs JUST A CHANCE. No one is asking for a 25 test run here, but even a full series is considered unnecessary simply because they have seen him fail in some List A match and hence all his FC performances are considered useless. Compare this with a guy like Kaif who can't even hold a bat and didn't even have a FC hundred before he played for India.
jonas10 Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Im glad to see the regional issues are slowly waning away. Its not like 30 years ago where 1/2 the team HAD to be from Bombay. The irony is that making the Punjabi from the small city of Chandigarh - Kapil Dev - captain and the triumph in 1983 is what began to break this mold. Sadly he is the one that wants to return to the old ways. I LOVE that our captain is a middle class guy from Jharkand who's father was a steel worker. I dream of the day when India has a team like Australia where the VERY VERY best 11 in the country are selected - no regionalism no godfathers etc. That means there are mechanisms in place at a grass roots level to provide training and skills to all billion plus in the country and the overwhelming majority of the players would come from rural side of the country where 70% of the population now lives.

Not saying that Badri hasn't been relatively unlucky, but that may be because of multitude of factors not because of regional bias in team selection. If there is regional bias in selection how come Murali vijay is getting a continuous run while his credentials are inferior to Badri? But if you have already decided to play victim card (borrowing this term from Outy) than no amount of reasoning is going to go down your throat.
anish233 Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Who is Dev. Who is Sunil. *** this baskets... i think a foriengn coach is the way to go.. i dont mind Fletcher at all.
Baad Indian Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Among the stalwarts of Indian cricket' date=' Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid, Kumble, Laxman, Srinath or even Zaheer [b']none of them are North Indians. You can produce more T20 gully cricketers like Shikar Dhawan or some losers while we continue playing test cricket which is what matters. :two_thumbs_up: How about the Greatest Indian Cricketer ever ? Kapil Dev - Batsman , Bowler , Captain , the Man who against all odds put India on top of the world in 1983? MSD - who achieved the same feat again in 2011 and guided India to the Number1 Test Rankings . If Test Cricket is all what matters then howcome Sehwag and Gautam dont find a place in your list of stalwarts ?:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

The thing is when it comes to Cricket , Mumbai has no match in terms of talent so there is nothing surprising over the dominance of Mumbaikars in Indian Cricket . Not just 30 years ago but even during the 90s especially in the 96 world cup the Indian Batting relied heavily on Mumbai players - Sachin , Kambli , Manjrekar . Kambli and Manjrekar were touted as the future pillars of Indian Cricket but they never fulfilled there potential and emergence of Dravid/Laxman killed there chances of making a comeback . Sachin however with his discipline and professionalism went on the become biggest Icon of World Cricket. I just hope someday we will see a Cricketer from the North-East that will provide the people from the region more attachment to the Cricket team something that never existed till now.
Baad Indian Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Yeah dude the average North Indian bigotry has prevented tailunts like Badrinath from becoming Tendulkar. :(( or Doda Ganesh from becoming Glenn Mc Grath . Sadaggopan Ramesh from becoming Mathew Hayden . Dinesh Karthik from becoming Adam Gilchrist .

And for your stupid Paki logic that North Indians are supposedly physically superior, the best fast bowlers that India produced over the past 15 years in Tests are Srinath, Prasad and Sreesanth, all South Indians and Zaheer. The only fast bowler whom you produced is Ashish Nehra who struggles to even finish his run up. :giggle:

Regarding Rathore maybe you arent aware but he averaged close to 50 in FC cricket and with no decent Test Batsmen in the team barring Sachin and Azhar he deserved his chances which were few anyways , the competition in batting line-up is too strong now-a-days so its not possible for guys like Badrinath to get a place in the team as easily as Rathore did , other cricketers were tried for a few matches and dumped instantly after a series or two unlike Great Tamil Superstar Murli Vijay who has surprised everyone after being selected for one series after another inspite of repetitive failures .

I am not talking about his misfortune or his non-selection (which is another story), rather about people who think he doesn't even deserve a look in, like the guy you borrowed a term from. :winky: M. Vijay is fighting for a backup opener spot and he has done reasonably well filling that role when he has gotten the chance, Badri is fighting for a permanent middle order spot, so there is no point in comparing the two. Can you say with a straight face that a guy with his FC performance wouldn't have gotten a chance to play a single test so far if he was from NZ or WZ?

Baad Indian Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 O really? Dev averaged 23 with the ball against the Number1 side of his era - West Indies While Javagal against Australia - the Number1 side of his era - averaged 42 overall and a poor 50 in Australia . India was regarded as a minnow side while Dev made his debut but he retired as the leading wicket taker in the world , while during Srinath's era the Indian side was much more balanced compared to the team in the 80s , we had some good batsmen and a good support bowler in Kumble.
yoda Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Since we are comparing Kapil to Prasad, why not compare Kumble to Harbhajan and guys like Chawla. :giggle:
