Since he was carrying the injury into IPL he could have opted himself out. India will be the loser. I fear for Dhoni now. He has his own back problems. Hope he lets someone like Saha keep and takes it easy.

This was a looooong time coming. They obviously waited till the point when the Delhi team was all but out of contention for the playoffs and then chose to send him for the operation.

Huh? He has been playing in this tamasha for the last month and is going to be missing the WI tour and probably the England tour because of it. The risk to play the IPL was taken and it is the Indian Test team which will suffer because of it.
You are being a little harsh there. Sehwag was advised to go for a surgery before the SA series itself. But decided to delay the surgery to play in the SA tests and then the WC. If the trade off was to miss the SA series and the WC vs the WI tour and England tour, any player would know which choice to make. And he did play a very important part in that WC campaign. Plus we don't yet know what kind of a pressure was put on him to play in the IPL by the BCCI and the franchise. So IMO he does deserve the 'benefit of doubt'. Viru will be back soon and let's wish him a very speedy recovery.

IPL failing will be a great thing for cricket - agreed. However - Rather than just blaming IPL, the players and BCCI need to take the blame. If there is a tamasha tournament, let it be there. The player/BCCI should have recognized that getting the treatment and surgery in time to recover for the Eng tour is vitally important. And Viru should have pulled out of the IPL - voluntarily or based on BCCI recommendation.

Even if BCCI/franchise didn't pit any pressure on Sehwag I would still back Sehwag to play most of IPL. Sehwag gets close to 2 million dollars per year from IPL - why would he turn his back on that kind of money in exchange for delaying the surgery and probably skipping WI and Eng tours. Put yourslef in his shoes - would you have done something different? I for one would have done exactly what Sehwag has done. He's a professional sportsperson and has to make money in a short career span. Why wouldn't he? As a cricket fan I am disappointed as India will not be able to field its strongest side but I understand where Sehwag is coming from and do not hold his decision to put IPL over the tours against him. Hopefully he will be fit for the Aussie tour and India will beat Aus in Aus :pray:
