Sorry bambis, in IPL, Dhoni >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> SRT. In fact, even as pure batsmen, I will take Sehwag and Gayle over SRT. But SRT brings fans and in turn more money. So I'll take Dhoni first and SRT second.

Friends..KKR never reached Semifinal. They had controversies and their performance was never good, still they were one of the or maybe the highest earning franchise in IPL.

1. Tendulkar 2.MSD 3.Gayle 4. Sehwag 5.Malinga T20 is not all about performance ,business value matter a lot
IPL is more about winning . If a team continue winning it gain supporters and profit in the long run like in every franchise . Also i dont think there a huge gap in financial value btw Sachin and Dhoni since the world cup victory . Also Dhoni has 7 or 8 years in him unlike Sachin who atmost has 3 years . So even in financial terms Dhoni is equal to Sachin IMO

datz true... world cup victory increases the value of MSD.. but not much as SRT.. SRT having a huge fan base not 1ly in India.. all around the world... till SRT is in the international stage.. MSD value will come 2nd 1ly :winky:

Tendulkar would be the most valued player in any draft/auction. Anyone who does not think so is either kidding himself' date=' or has 0 business sense.[/quote'] If I am starting a franchise I sure wouldn't base it around a guy who's 38 years old and about to retire. I am not talking about the monetary value of the player but a franchise with a winning culture with good brand value which Dhoni will provide. Btw I am not a CSK fan - in fact don't have a IPL team and simply follow IPL to get an idea about the Indian youngsters. The purpose of this thread was not IPL auction but to see who other fans think are the top 5 most valuable picks. I know that you will be lucky to get even 2 of these players in an IPL franchise but if you could pick ANY player in your franchise irrespective of the ceiling price or how much the players cost whom would you get?

I think these should be the top 5 picks, 1. Virender Sehwag 2. Lasith Malinga 3. Chris Gayle 4. Dale Steyn 5. Kieron Pollard/Shane Watson Dale Steyn may not be a huge success in the IPL, but he is absolutely lethal when he gets going. Can't keep him out at all.

:giggle: Id rather take Bollinger.
Vettori is one of the best if not THE best T20 spinner in the world. Yes, he is not a wicket taking spinner like Ashwin but not many bowlers can tie down the batsmen in those middle overs like he does.

Ever heard of a thing called "fan base" and what that means to a team!!! Goddy has got probably one of the biggest fan bases across all sports in the world currently. Any new franchise starting a team would like nothing more than a huge fan base to start with.

The fact is Dhoni is more valuable cricketer than Sachin in T20s . Noone is arguing about tests here . Yes Sachin is a great batsman but there are plenty of opening Batsmen who can scoring similar to him in IPL. But Dhoni is not only an excellent batsmen and WK but also by far the finest captain . Having him in ur team as captain guarantees u success because of his amazing captaincy which u cant say about Sachin . Ultimately its winning that matters in cricket not how great a individual player u are . If u cant grasp this then its either poor cricketing sense or too much Sachin bias
I dont think they were talking in terms of cricketing abilty but were in turns of crowd pulling power

Ever heard of the saying "nothing succeeds like success"? Once a team starts winning the fan following comes naturally. By the way it's not as if Dhoni doesn't have enough fan following and he's got a much longer future than Tendulkar. 6-8 years back I would have gone with Tendulkar but if I do now I risk losing my "face of the franchise" player in a year or two.
