julianlev Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Good grief This is getting a little ridiculous I've seen some poor umpiring in my life, but this IPL has been a breeding ground for poor decision making To be honest, I've been meaning to make this thread for a while, but the latest incident just took the proverbial cake Dinesh Kartik nicks one behind off a Morkel ball that must have been heard in Bangalore, yet the umpire remains motionless We hear umpires complain constantly about how we shouldn't use UDRS, but incidents like this, as well as many others throughout this tournament, show just how necessary it is Maybe the thought of getting shown up will encourage some of these umpires to improve on their performance This is especially important in the 20/20 format, where a single bad decision can lose a game Just my opinion, but the standard of umpiring seems to be taking a serious dive at the moment
julianlev Posted May 15, 2011 Author Posted May 15, 2011 and the madness continues Warne gets two lives when consecutive lbw appeals are turned down, despite both going on to hit with no bat involved

Mariyam Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 Tait bowled McCullum in the first over of the Kochi vs RR game, but was adjudged to have over stepped the side crease. I thought that was very harsh by the umpire. He should have been given out.
f.b.m Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 The world is a harsh place for South Africans as the sum total of your threads show :giggle:
Ultimate_Game Posted May 15, 2011 Posted May 15, 2011 It's IPL so not concerned. As long as umpiring & referrals are in place for intl games I am fine.
julianlev Posted May 16, 2011 Author Posted May 16, 2011 The world is a harsh place for South Africans as the sum total of your threads show :giggle: as my second post here showed, this is a problem that affects all players and yeah, it annoys me when my country's players suffer because of poor Indian umpiring desicions, but then, it would annoy anyone wouldn't it? so unless you have a response to my argument, please dont post meaningless replies
julianlev Posted May 16, 2011 Author Posted May 16, 2011 It's IPL so not concerned. As long as umpiring & referrals are in place for intl games I am fine. True, but the problem is that the BCCI is fighting against mandatory UDRS at the international level I have no idea why, I personally dont buy the "its not accurate" line I keep hearing from them
urbestfriend Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 And there is Tarapore, he wouldn't give an LBW even if it is hitting middle stump. I'ver seen it all.
ganeshran Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 Mods please merge this thread with the IPL umpiring thread. Thanks
Switchblade Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 And there is Tarapore' date=' he wouldn't give an LBW even if it is hitting middle stump. I'ver seen it all.[/quote'] Completely Agree With You
priya899 Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 :hatsoff: The IPL governing council is not happy with the standard of umpiring in the tournament. priya

Its IPL! Who gives a crap about what goes on here! I've got a problem with BCCIs stance on UDRS in international cricket. And please dont tell me what to post and what not to. I can decide that for myself without your assistance. kthxbai.

You cannot pick and choose what technologies to be used depending on the series. It needs to be uniform with Hawkeye, Snickometer/Hotspot. The problem is that all these technologies cost money. Someone posted a figure of 56000 US dollars per match. The individual boards dont want to pick up this tab and are looking for the ICC to contribute. ICC doesnt want to pay either and hence has left it to individual boards to choose whether to use it or not.

I'm stating this one more time Poor umpiring is a problem that affects every cricket player and yes, this is IPL, but it sets a bad precedent when umpires perform badly at any level you cant say that because its IPL it doesn't matter, as the newest cricket event it should set an example to the young players who take part in it more importantly, umpires should not be allowed to get the idea that poor performances are acceptable without repercussions

ganeshran Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 some forms of UDRS cost money' date=' but so often a bad umpiring decision could be overturned with simple use of hawkeye or even a replay[/quote'] That is what the BCCI is against. Not a bits and pieces UDRS which again leads third umpires to arbitrary decisions which may just turn out to be a howler. Without Hotspot / Snicko, there is no point in referring an edge to the third umpire and even if its referred he will go on his gut feeling more than the scientifically proven method. I want UDRS too, but with both Hawkeye and Hotspot. Once both of these technologies are finalized (and who needs to pay for their use) then ICC should make it mandatory.

ganeshran Posted May 16, 2011 Posted May 16, 2011 wouldn't it be best to divide the cost up between the test playing nations have every country pay for UDRS in their own country A rough picture :0 Boards dont want to pay for it and are looking to ICC to provide standardization and financial backing ICC doesnt want to standardize the technology to be used in UDRS till they have financial backing from sponsors. Sponsors dont want to back the technology till BCCI agrees to it. BCCI doesnt want to agree till UDRS is standardized. Its a vicious circle.
