Whats happened to him? Watched odis and tests and this guy is bowling consisitently at 90 mph whatever spell or time of day. Also bowling accurate as well. Used to be a medium pacer, now has serious pace. Top phaaaast bowler now! He will be real threat when we tour

As he himself said, lot of work in the gym and some work on his bowling technique with Otis Gibson is helping him a lot. He always had that ovely outswinger but did not have the control earlier. Now seems to have lot more control over his action and run up also looks quite smooth. IIRC he did troube us in a ODI back in 2009 and then again in the WC. A much improved bowler and definitely one to watch out for when we tour.

Vo to acha hua tha, he got injured after that test and then we won the next test without him in the team.

Rampaul has definitely improved a lot since the time he was in WI team earlier. He's much more consistent with his line and length and has added some pace as well. Good for him and WI

I think we will be fine. If the wickets are quick...good for our bowlers. Our batsmen will neutralize the pitch to an extent.

Rampaul was apparently very quick in the U15, U19 days but got a bit fat after age group cricket and his pace dropped, now he is starting to finally live up to his potential.

I have not watched Rampaul bowl all the time but whenever I watched he was more 85 to 87 mph or 137 to 140k. Did not really look like consistent 90mph. Even Taylor in India was bowling mostly in the high 130k with occational 145k or 90mph, that too in not all the matches. The most common deliveries I have seen Roach bowl have been 88 and 89mph or 142 and 143kph. Most of the world has the habit of choosing the fastest pace of bowlers from countries known for pace and compare that with the average or at times even lowest pace among the faster deliveries of bowlers from countries not known for pace like India.

My point is that the difference in pace between the Indian attack and the good foreign attacks is thought to be much more than the actual difference. Very few bowlers can actually average 90mph. This time around Ishant might bowl around 85 to 87mph in tests if he gets his rhythm right.

Steyn and Morkel went up to 152K, especially Morkel was around 145 KPH consistently and troubled our batsmen a lot with bounce and pace.[/quote'] I don't disagree that there is a difference in speeds but an actual difference of 5 mph or so is made out to be a 10 to 15 mph difference by some commentators and fans who compare the fastest balls bowled by Steyn etc. with a below average delivery of a Zaheer Khan. I am only pointing out that part. In the last SAF tour the Indian bowlers were at their slowest in a long long time. Zaheer and Sreesanth were bowling some spells between 125k to 132k. Both these seamers rarely go down below the 130k to 137k bracket in all the years that i have seen them. Maybe they were taking extra precaution before the world cup to maintain their fitness.
