I have followed Shaun Marsh in IPL across multiple seasons and the guy is phenomenal. I admit that T20 is not a barometer for judging a batsman's credentials but it's not the number of runs that Marsh gets, it's the way he scores the runs. You hardly see any ugly hoicks or across the line slogs. He generally plays straight and plays proper cricketing shots. I have seen many of the Aussie players in IPL and for me the only other Aussie batsman who has performed better or at the same level is Mike Hussey. Rest have been found wanting. I would love to hear what Aussies think about Marsh coz to me he looks much better than Cameron White, David Warner, Ferguson, Finch, Jacques, David Hussey etc. Hell I would have him in my team before Michael Clarke as well.

To me he sure looks much better than Phil Jacques or Phil Hughes who got into the Aussie Test team. Marsh generally gets a one-off game and then gets dumped by the Aussie selectors. He should be a permanent member of the squad.

But somehow he got sidelined once again. He has never been given a long run by Aussie selectors who somehow see more "potential" in guys like Cameron White, Steven Smith etc.

From what I've seen of Shaun Marsh, he plays superbly in IPL and does poorly in ODIs.

I have seen White struggling in the WOrld Cup and now in IPL and I don't even know what Steven Smith does - is he a bowler who bats or a batsman who bowls coz he sucks at both. Are these guys really better than Marsh? Marsh must be elevating his game to a whole new level in IPL or Steven Smith and White have done a great job of hiding their talent for them to make it in Aussie team ahead of Marsh.

He was injured after the Pakistan ODIs in 2009, then again during the ODI series with WI early in 2010, then got injured in the 1st ODI against SL last year, and just before the WC got injured again. But for those injuries, he woud have been playing ODIs regularly for the Aussies.

White is a middle order batsman. Right now, he is woefully out of form but generally, he is a dangerous player. Don't ask me about Smith. No idea why he is in the team. He is like India's R Jadeja, everyone thinks that he is useful cuz he can take wickets and score runs, but never actually does. Also, Marsh bats at the top of the order, which is pretty much taken.

Hughes is being identified as a long term top order batsman. Marsh hasn't done very well in the Sheffield Shield over the seasons. Last season was the first really good one he had and could count himself unlucky not to get a test spot during the Ashes. But Khwaja also had a good season. Not sure if you are referring to tests or ODIs, though. In ODIs he is definitely in the frame, but in tests he really needs to put on more FC runs before being able to get ahead of the competition.
