BCCI to allow Indian players to play for English Counties

BCCI to lift England county ban Mumbai The BCCI is likely to allow Indian players to play the English county circuit this season. Last year players like Irfan Pathan, Ishant Sharma, Piyush Chawla and Amit Mishra got offers to play in England but the Indian board, fearing that the hard grind would take a toll on their bodies, refused to give them No Objection Certificate. But there seems to be change in mindset this time around. A top BCCI official said players could benefit from the county stint, like Zaheer Khan. “Players like Irfan can be benefit from a county stint and even others will gain some experience. We all have seen what Zaheer’s stint with Worcestershire did to him. The Indian board is giving thought on it,” he said. With India involved in back-to-back Test series in West Indies and England from July to September, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid wouldn’t be signing county contracts in 2011. But the likes of Pathan or Chawla are likely to picked by English sides. http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/BCCI-to-lift-England-county-ban/795952/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hope some of the bowlers not in WI (Irfan, RPS, Balaji, Dhawal etc) get a county contract. WOuld be good for the younger ones like Umesh , Unadkat and Varun as well.

Counties will not sign these useless unknown indian bowlers....The overseas player is supposed to be the best player in the team so why would they bother with unproven young indian bowlers?

Erm county teams have been signing unknown and useless Aussies and South Africans for years. County cricket is in a financial hell-hole any way, suggest those Indian players that want to play go and do so quickly because there won't be many teams left in a few years.

Examples of these unknown aussies? Cant include saffies as they are usually kolpak so not overseas. If you think counties would bother with signing people like Unadkat you are mistaken.

I can't say with certainty if Unadkat can find a contract with one of the counties, but it is not impossible looking at current standards of County Cricket. Some of the examples of overseas players like Azhar Mehmood, Rana ul Naved, Sean Irvine really not very top class. But I agree it would be very difficult for players without any kind of international exposure to be offered a contract from one of the counties.

County cricket is overrated in terms of quality and standard. The thing which players learn there is to play in those conditions and how to use the ball in terms of swing and seam and how to maintain the fitness in such a long season that county cricket has.

Unadkat had 11 wickets against WI A in England. He is better than many bowlers play in county
Yeh he is amazing, was really a fan of his 75 mph bowling vs the south africans, they were quaking in there boots.

I don't even know why Unadkat, Yadav, Aaron and so on are part of this debate. I mean look at it, they cant have played more than about 30 odd domestic first-class games between them. Zaheer's example is of an experienced bowler wanting to hone his skills, not a phacking yoof academy. Guys with decent pedigree like Pathan, RP and Mishra are the ones to look at. Infact it sounds like they've had offers anyway which is no surprise.

moot point, the standards of county cricket are over-rated, (it's mediocre at best), evident from the number of imports England need from South Africa, and the lack of county cricket to produce a single English "super star" player (50+ batting,

when I see Andre Adams part of County Cricket. I know the standards are really low...LOL If county cricket was great, England would have ruled the world cricket. LOL. Look out how many games they play, money is good etc. but still England was getting beaten by all. Even Pakis had great record in England.

Alviro petersen,Mark Cosgrove, Afridi, Tahir, Maharoof, Andrew McDonald, Adam voges, Mendis, Kieron Pollard, Muali Kartik, Yasir Arafat, Rana Naved, Wayne Parnell, These are the best players of their teams? You must be having great teams then :cantstop: Even Piyush chawla had a decent outing.

Yeh County cricket is poor standard, some random aussie Justin Langer's has a pretty strange opinion though..

Then wrapping-up reiteration of last year’s much-documented statement about the standard of county cricket: “Last year’s first division cricket was as good as any first-class cricket I’ve played,” he says. “It was played at fever pitch.”
But not to worry what first class cricket has he played? Australian fc cricket in the 90's and early 2000's was pretty mediocre.

Blowing one's trumpet, makes one's confirmation he is still the best and plays with the best...and that's what Langer was doing at 40!

Justin Langer plays there and makes his money, what else you want him to say. The fact remains, no matter what, England has been mediocre cricket team throughtout last decade. It just reflects poor talent pool and poor standard of county cricket. Although only thing I like is they run it professionally.

Until they ran into bunch of south africans they sucked real bad :cantstop:

RP, Irfan, Chawala must play this. I really hope Irfan and RP learn from here and get back to India colors soon just like Zaheer did.
