IKnowU Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 IPL should be played over a season of 4-6 months, not only do you get more games out of it but also a better concentration of games during the period. By playing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday you will attract enough audience and also prevent burnout etc. It also gives lesser known players a chance to perform since its over a long term period where the high profile players wont be available for the whole season. The interest will also be preserved as it will be a tradition to tune into watching IPL games every weekend similar how many people go watch cinemas during weekends. You have to build a culture and tradition, if you force feed down the audience's throats they will eventually become sick of it.

someone Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 IPL once again is hurting Indian cricket terribly as its main players, Sachin and Zaheer are forced to play the garbage leage even through pain which is bound to hurt their their test performance in the coming as they'll hardly any rest from the hectic inyernational schedule. :hysterical::hysterical: Very much false...
mishra Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 You wont to get rid of IPL for sake of what. Watching a game played between Ireland and Pakistan? Ora a game between WI and India. Get real IPL is way more competitive than international cricket. Injuries do reflect that. Ahh now you will come with argument that test cricket is only real cricket. Fans will still choose IPL over WI pakistan game. Not only fans, players all around have made their choice. Its a case of Bopara and Morgan. who you think is right? You can watch him. I am no big fan of BCCI. That doesnt mean i would oppose everything they do. Mind you they are ahaead of other boards for some reason

yoda Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 This whole nationalistic attitude towards sport is limited to mainly cricket. In all other sport, people do play for the country when the occasion calls for it, namely world championships, Olympics etc, but not non-stop bilateral. Most of the time, they are playing for themselves (individual sport) or for a pro team. May be it is time for cricket to also move in that direction and eliminate these endless bilateral series and focus on the test championship, ODI WC, Asia cup and leave the calendar open for pro leagues no matter what form they can thrive in. If someone wants to sell a test match pro league, more power to them. It is impossible to sustain both the pro league format and endless bilaterals not because one affects the other, simply because it is way too much cricket. Something's gotta give. Good news is that there is already talk of test championship. Now if you eliminate bilateral ODIs and just stick to WC and CT, we are getting closer.

yoda Posted May 25, 2011 Author Posted May 25, 2011 FC cricket is necessary as a far better gauge of how/whether a player is suitable for test cricket, IPL is a money making venture with no bearing on how good a player is for India- Asnodkar, Dinda and Gony are proof of that. DOnt ban it, but limit how much Indias senior players play in it. Maybe force them to play half and compensate them the monies lost. IPL is enjoyed by fans all over India. Yes, it doesn't help prepare/pick players for test cricket or for that matter ODIs. So what? It is a different format and people want to see their pro teams with the best available players. There were 80000 people for the KKR vs MI match. Why should they be deprived of watching the best talent especially if the best want to be there?

So if something's gotta give, according to you it should be the bilateral series' where mostly the quality cricket is and not the pro league format where even players like Saurabh Tiwary, Valthaty, Asnodkar, Goni etc can flourish?? Also, instead of trying to create a balance between the two you simply want to eliminate bilateral series'. :hatsoff: to you.

Once the better players figure it out, it will become like any other format. You can already see that the consistent performers in T20s are typically your Rainas and Gayles and Dhonis who are successful in other formats as well. Just like you have ODI specialists, you will have T20 specialists. Anyway, no one is killing your pure format. There will still be test championships. And like I said, if you want to start a pro league for the 5 day format, that's an option too. :winky:

Scrap ODI's? or Tests?...or simply get the board to organise things a bit better :P

IPL ke pyaar mein andhey ho gaye ho bhai :cantstop: You're saying "so what?" - so what if it results in our already over worked cricketers getting more stress and more fatigue? so what if it results in more injuries? so what if it affects our domestic structure (as Chandan has pointed out in earlier posts)?? Who cares as long as the $$$ are flowing in :winky: At least they can reduce the number of games per player per season but it hasn't happened in 4 seasons so I don't have much hope that it will happen anytime soon.

Scrap ODI's? or Tests?...or simply get the board to organise things a bit better :P Scrap bilaterals totally unless individual countries want to play each other for fun. Create a test championship, stick to ODI WC, CT, Asia cup. Create a 4 year calendar so all can be accommodated. Leave enough gap in international calendar so that individual countries can have their own domestics and pro leagues during those windows.

mishra Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Well you won't retain number one status by diluting the talent pool. We are allready doing it. It was our probably C team which faced NZ at home. A- team went to SA. A- team enetertained SA at home. B team will going to WI. A* won the world cup. Check the score sheets of matches played by us over last 1 year.

Mumbai Indians are apparently the one franchisee that has been getting strong audiences but that might be because of the SRT factor more than anything.
