Fontaine Posted June 7, 2011 Posted June 7, 2011 Fletcher's real test will come on the England tour where his technical knowledge of the conditions as well as their batsmen will be vital to all our bowlers. It's going to be interesting to see if he can teach some of our brain dead bowlers how to use bowling angles more effectively in trying to move batsmen out of their comfort zone and attack the offstump.

Fletcher doesnt have some magic crystal ball he reveals to the players. You guys think Kirsten succeeded as a coach because he knew some bs secret details about other teams and the conditions? Sure he might have some secrets since he coach England, but just because he knows the answers doesn't = success for India.

Fletcher doesnt have some magic crystal ball he reveals to the players. That's not true at all. You have to know what a good length is on English pitches, which is different from other countries and even some English bowlers have trouble hitting at times. Also the slope in Lords plays a big part so knowing your bowlers (what they can/cannot do) and knowing what the conditions are plays a big part. Then there's the difference in the SG/Dukes ball. Ishant/Munaf don't have much experience with the English one so they'll need extra coaching. And then there's targetting specific weakenesses of their batsmen and Fletcher has very specific technical knowledge about their strengths/weakenesses. For example when Strauss was in danger of being dropped a few years ago he changed his offstump play to completely leaving out anything he didn't have to play at solidifying his offstump line. But recently he's been weak against left arm quicks if they can move the ball away from the offstump so he tends to play the bat away from his pads leaving room for cutters/inswingers to get him out. If a viewer like me can see that then Fletcher sees a lot more and his first knowledge of all these things is needed by some of our IPL idiotic bowlers like Ishant/Sree who have a hard time adjusting to different formats.

bharat297 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 It's not really Fletchers fault. Indian cricket has always been a broken system. We have relied on some greats to get us some success. Greats such as Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly, Zaheer, Kumble. Now these legends are ageing or gone and naturally are not as good as they were in their prime. The system is still broken. First-class cricket is played on dead pitches in a diluted comp, and we're producing players such as Raina who have a lot of talent but not the best technique, but can't really fix their technique because of the packed schedule of IPL, CL, World T20, meaningless ODI tournaments (e.g. Asia Cup), etc.
