Do they even watch them play and look at techniques. Both Dhawan and Tiwary bat like they are chopping trees down. Come on selectors, wake up!

Prolific scorer argument proves my point. Seems selctors just number crunch and dont watch players and use cricket eye. Dhawan and S Tiwary are tree choppers, they should be packed of to the brazillian rain forests were they may have some use.

Ram Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 Shikhar Dhawan clearly seems slightly lost and confused out there. How he went from near extinction to default selection in the national XI is anybody’s guess. But, for those who remember, the Shikhar Dhawan we saw during the 2008 IPL seemed to be the real deal. He was genuinely impressive during that edition of the tournament. He just seemed to have that particular mentality required to be a successful LoI batsmen. When I saw him play back then, I really thought we were looking at a definite India prospect. But sadly, something seemed to have happened between then and now and he looks a shadow of his previous self. He may still go on to have a reasonably successful series, but that still doesn’t change th fact that he’s lucky to be in the eleven. I think its fair to say that Murali Vijay should have been our back-up opener for ODIs and T20s, especially on flat pitches. But a combination of luck – The squad for the ODI series was rather bizarrely announced even while the IPL was going on. Vijay wasn’t among the runs during the initial part and exactly one day before the squad was announced Dhawan scored an impressive 90 odd to knock Punjab out. Vijay subsequently ran into a lot of form – and probably the fear in Srikkanth’s mind that if he picked Vijay ahead of anyone else, he will be branded as being partial towards players from his state meant that Dhawan snuck into the squad.

He should not be tried again! Rahane's OD record is so-so - averages 38.61 (SR of 83). Dhawan deserves a go of a few ODIs. Parthiv on the other hand baffles me. I have no idea why he is there.

Even in the IPL he was always an opener yet sucked against the domestic level bowlers which itself proved his standards. Not to mention that he never had pressure too at least last year as Sachin always kept strike on the other end. Manoj Tiwary should have been picked in the team today and I told it in the T20 match too.

Im sure that is not the case at all. msb has pointed to Vijays ODI record, that pretty much sums it up. He has had his chances and not really grabbed them. Dhawan deserves this shot based on his List A record. This is the point of this series, give the 2nd string a go, he is 2nd string opener (Rayudu and Tiwary ARE NOT OPENERS). If he is not good enough he will a) work on his game and return or b) never be heard of again at senior level. The only other options are Uthappa, Rahane and Mukund, been nice had Mukund got a run before his test debut, get him attuned. But oh well. Parthiv is keeper and opened well in SA right...cant argue with him being there IMO msb
