Here is something interesting a friend of mine from another cricket forum discovered. He terms this as 'Best against the best', and rightly so. I'm just quoting his original post as I wanted some discussion on the same topic on ICF too.

And here is the final list of top 5 batsman against great attacks last decade. 1. Sehwag 2. Kallis 3. Lara 4. Ponting 5. Hayden

Sehwag is a pure flat track bully , we all saw how badly he failed against quality attack in tough conditions of SA . Best Batsman of last decade ? He shouldnt even be in the Top ten list leave alone being the number 1 .

Arre mamu, aks me for such things no...aks man just aks me I'll give u full details. Pls Note: A value of 1.0 indicates the performance level typical of an ATG. Just coz some of these batsmen have lesser indexes dunn mean they are lesser than normal....they are only the lesser immortals. A range of 0.9 to 1.1 can be considered as the typical range. Condition Difficulty Index - For every host country, the average runs per wicket (RpW)is calculated between the first test and last test of the player. Then those venues which have had at least 3 tests played on them, and have RpW less than the host country's average are selected as "Difficult Venues" The typical 4 subjective criteria are applied - (Home:Away; I1:I2:I3:I4; Regular:Minnow; RFF i.e. Number of Innings and different Venues) For the 20 ATG bats, over their careers this is how they perform - CDI%252520Graph.jpgBowler Challenge Index - For every ATG, the top 10 bowlers based on ICC rating when he played against the batsman is taken. Minimum criteria is that the bowler should have played at least 5 Tests against the batsman. A composite Ratings is derived for the 10 bowlers. Then the Dismissals per Match by these bowlers is calculated. Then BCI = ratings index / DpM For the 20 ATG bats, over their careers this is how they perform - BCI%252520Graph.jpgMy own inferences: a. I did not expect Viru to do as good as he did in difficult conditions. b. Didn't expect Bradman to be so high in difficult conditions but well he is! c. The real surprise is Pawning. Didn't think he would have such a high index on difficult conditions. My respect for the punter just grows by the day in spite of his dirty palms and obnoxious mannerisms d. Rahul and Sachin have an identical BCI because they played the same bowlers at their peaks and by a terrific coincidence they have identical DpM as well! e. Check out the guys from before the War...hardly any great bowlers they faced. f. To emphasize the previous point, all 10 of Rahul and Sachin's top 10 bowlers had their peak ratings when playing against the batsmen above 800. Whereas the 3 English H's and Bradman had 3 and 2 bowlers > 800 respectively g. Steve Waugh has the best BCI primarily because his DpM is pretty low (and so was Miandad's). h. Highest average ratings for the top 10 bowlers was for Sachin and Rahul = 873.8, next was Border = 873.2. Inzi, Lara, and Waugh are the only others who have average ratings > 850. Hammond = 594.5, Hobbs = 686.7, Hutton = 746.5, Bradman = 669.1

He averages 35 in Bangladesh. So Bangladesh pitches are great pitches? What a stupid logic. He has thrashed every bowler on every pitch. He just played rash shots in some of the innings and got out. But that is how Viru plays. He has got a 100 in every single country except Bangladesh and NZ. Even in NZ in one dayers he got 2 centuries where batsmen hardly could score a 50.

But then if you look at the ODIs, he has been immensely successful in New Zealand.

Not a chance. Just in terms of tenacity and playing under pressure Laxman easily outperforms Sehwag. How many times have you seen Sehwag give his wicket away with a careless shot, or near the close of play? Meanwhile Laxman prizes his wicket as if his very life depends on it. Just in the last year alone Laxman has saved the team on fifth day pitches or has gone on to win matches on his resolve. Sehwag is a great batsmen, no doubt, but he's got too few innings where he carried the team in high pressure situations like Laxman has.

Not sure about being batsman of the decade. Surely was the best Test opener of the Decade. All the theories of him being a FTB could have been put to rest had he cared a bit when he toured SA. Here is an amazing chance for him in England, But he must play.

If Sehwag needs to be mentioned in all time greats, he needs to perform better well in England and again in Australia .He failed miserably in South Africa and that has taken some gloss from his resume but in SA series Proteas prepared pitches with vengeance to counter his attacking batting style and Steyn was bowling at his best.

Sehwag is the one who can always set up a match in India's favor, even if everyone counts India out of the game. Laxman doesn't have that ability. Actually Laxman also has the ability, but he cannot do it as often as Sehwag.

That list is by no. of matches playe and not by no. of runs or Avg. try your Lahori cheating skills somewhere else,ITDUZZ
