Will Raina ever over come his short ball problem?

He played well enough against them imo. Maybe the surface was a bit slower than what he found in SA or what he might in England but Castro and Rampaul arent trundlers by any stretch of the imagination.

Definitely looked more solid against the short stuff than he previously has. I've been a big critic of his Test batting but no complaints today - excellent innings under real pressure. Only minus point was his batting with the tailenders - but this is something that will come through experience.

Laxman has still not mastered that art of playing with TLs luckily our TLs have been better then the TLs of the past

Raina>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Kohli any day of the week temperamentally..................................... Raina always performs when the team is down.Kohli only performs the supporting role....

^ Yeah right when the team was down in the final and most of us lost hope that we could win the world cup. Who had a important partnership with Gambhir? Its so annoying when people make judgement based on just 1 match, most of the greats haven't had a great starts to their career.

Raina will be a mainstay for the Indian middle order once the trio retire. He doesn't look like becoming Ponting like with the short ball but may well go on to have a Ganguliy like career if not better. There aren't too many batsmen in the domestic scene better than him. Maybe Virat, although I am not sure. Sehwag Gambhir Pujara Kohli Raina Yuvraj S/ R Sharma Dhoni Bhajji Mishra/Sreeshant Ishant Zaheer This is how I see our test team shaping up in the future.

So who had a match winning partnership with Yuvraj singh with 80 runs to get against Australia in the quarterfinal, and in the same match who got out to a full toss from a village bowler. Who stayed till the end and finished the match for India in the Pakistan Semi final.. Am not saying Kohli is bad,BUT WHEN THE TEAM NEEDS THE MOST.................... RAINA>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>KOHLI

So If kohli fails in one match,it is just a one off innings. But when Raina plays a bad shot ,daggers come out. Diff. Yardsticks for diff.Players............................. I am always a Raina FAN,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Kohli cannot come close to raina... Raina is a team man.

Raina is temperamentally the strongest player apart from DHoni: 1.Scored a century in Idea Cup Final 2010 when India were reeling at 40/5. 2.Finished the chase versus Lanka in the final test match of the series which india drew. 3.Knock in Quarter Final of WC 2011. 4.Knock in Semi Final of WC 2011. 5.Yesterdays Knock.

how can Raina be temperamentally stronger than lets say Kohli. For God's sake in ODI he played one bad sht after another....total lack of temperament there.

He did play some short balls well' date=' more like a hop to get to the height of the delivery to defend it down. [b']Would like for him to develop an aggressive approach towards the short balls. Learn to hook/pull more like Gilly.
That may be asking too much. Not everybody can become a accomplished puller/hooker like Ponting or Gilly. For Raina, I would be pretty happy if he can just learn how not to get out on short balls and if he can do that, then he'll get enough other kind of balls which he can keep putting in stands beyond cow-corner - as he already does.

Playing short balls from spinners is not quite what I meant:--D
:hysterical::hysterical:
my bad I saw "short ball" "four" and "Raina" in the same sentance and got excited.
Can understand :two_thumbs_up:

Well they say never say never. But I doubt it. The problem is not so much the short ball itself but the mental effect it has on him. I think those 2 innings in SA were so awful both in technique and temperament that it will take something exceptional to convince me on Rains.

You're doing something similar to what you accuse others of. Maybe you're not putting Kohli down like others do, but saying Raina is way better than Kohli when the team needs him is absolutely absurd. Kohli bats at 3 usually, look at the wins he's taken us to, you don't see the team in need or in dire situations from which Raina has to save us, because Kohli has done his job at the top.

Raina was very very classy yesterday. Someone genuine hostile bowling and he coped suberbly. Good game plan. Anything short ducked it and left well alone. No hooks, just left it. But this did not mean he was camped on back foot , just ducking and in negative zone and flustered. As his footwork and technique was tight and crisp. Anything to drive, even on the up was pounced on with assured drives, some of his drives were sensational. Anything wide despatched. Really showed bottle and good game plan. Impressive and suprised me as to how assured he was

Yes he played in the V, some of the straight drives were out of the world. He has lot of class, we never had any doubts on that. But still he has long way to go to play against quick bowlers bowling on his chest. He should be prepared to take few knocks.
