MundaPakistani Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Oh there I would disagree with you SS. Hadlee is perhaps the most successful pace bowler on sub-continent tracks. 68 wickets in 13 tests@22, I would give an arm and a leg for an Indian bowler to have that sort of record on sub-continent. xxx Among the foreign bowlers he might have been the best on sub continent tracks but i don't think he was better than the 2 Ws and definitely not better than Imran.

Yes I was speaking about non subcontinent bowlers MP. Overall if you ask me Imran would perhaps have the best overall record(though you did not hear it from me..I am too much of a Kapil fan) xxx
silentstriker Posted June 8, 2007 Author Posted June 8, 2007 Its all subjective SS, you suggest having no quality bowlers helped Hadlee but how can you deny having so many great bowlers helped Mcgrath equally well, if not more. xxx Of course it helped, but in a different way. The interesting thing about McGrath is, that if you take his average without Warne in the team, its about the same. On the other hand, if you take Warne's average without McGrath, it dips quite badly. I've always believed that McGrath helped Warne a lot more than the other way around because the batsmen were forced to go after Warne if McGrath was at the other end being his usual economical self, and Warne got quite a few wickets as a result of that. Stats bear this out.

Stats bear this out. Thats a fair point and I would agree. It is quite natural though, is it not SS? If Aussies have Mcgrath in the game there is a good chance that by the time Warney comes to bowl opposition are 55/2. If Mcgrath was not in the team the score would perhaps be 75/0 with both batsmen set. It is just the nature of the game I suppose. But yeah I do agree that Warne's record are much better when Mcgrath is in the team than the other way around. xxx
vroomfondel Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 who knows what wonders lie in a quotidian 'all time XI' thread. the quality of argument made me giggle like a little girl. thanks are in order.
CC1981 Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Having a good bowling attack to back you up might reduce your wicket/match quotient but it improves your average. If you are the one-man attack, you end up getting 5-100. If you are part of a great attack, you end up getting 3-50. Ie, better average but less wickets/match. As far as McGrath vs Hadlee the bowler goes, they are literally clones of each other. Hadlee moved the ball a tad bit more, McGrath makes it bounce a tad bit more. Both metronomes, both capable of bowling in friendly as well as non-friendly conditions, both relying on consistent wicket-taking than one burst of 5 wickets in 3-4 overs, except Hadlee comes with a 27 batting average and McGrath's is not even half that. Overall, Hadlee over McGrath is a no-brainer because Hadlee offers far more overall than McGrath does.
Sachin=GOD Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Bump!!! a lot of discussion going on about whether Dhoni will make it to an ODI all time XI so lets have some opinions on your ODI all time XI.....
SLICKR392 Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 You object or laugh at my XI, I kill you. Sachin Jaysuriya/Gilchrist (wk) Amla/Kohli Sir Viv Bevan Dhoni(c/wk) Kapil Hadlee Bond Murali McGrath/Waqar
SLICKR392 Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 ^Malinga shouldn't be an option there Apart from India, he will be deadly in the death along with Bond. :dontknow:
Sachin=GOD Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Apart from India' date=' he will be deadly in the death along with Bond. :dontknow:[/quote'] have Pigeon :agree:
SLICKR392 Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 have Pigeon :agree: I would rather have Hadlee ahead of Pigeon. :hmmm:
Sachin=GOD Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 No Wasim??? :omg: Waqar is better IMO. I would rather have Hadlee ahead of Pigeon. :hmmm: Hadlee AND Waqar or Hadless AND Pigeon loks great because you already have Bond. Have to go some where....will discuss this tomorrow :icflove:
saneindian Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Sachin, Gilly, Viv, ABDV, Bevan, Dhoni, Kapil Paaji, Wasim, Saqlain, Bond, Garner 12th Man - Jonty
maniac Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Sachin' date=' Gilly, Viv, ABDV, Bevan, Dhoni, Kapil Paaji, Wasim, Saqlain, Bond, Garner 12th Man - Jonty[/quote'] You have 2 keepers and 2 similar styled players like Bevan and Dhoni....You can strengthen that middle order by adding Ponting for Dhoni or opening with Mark Waugh/Jayasuriya(gives you additional bowling option) and replacing Bevan with Ponting.
BeautifulGame Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Sachin Jayasurya Richards Ponting Bevan Dhoni Klusner Akram Warne Brett Lee Garner 12 th man Jonty Rhodes
BeautifulGame Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Personally believe Lee is the most underrated bowler in recent ODI history

Ponting vs Viv for 3, Viv by a mile, Ponting if he's in my team would bat 3 and no where else. Also considered Dean Jones at 3 but Viv ahead of him anyday. At no 4 looked at Miandad and Lloyd as well but ABDV for me In the lower middle order at 5 and 6 - the options I considered were Bevan, Dhoni, Hussey and Inzi, thought about putting Inzi-Bevan at 5 and 6 but no 6 would be too low for either of them, hence Dhoni gets in (yes I am biased) 3 keepers in my 11 actually, Gilly keeps, ABDV and Dhoni get into the side as batsmen and not as keepers.
