achilles Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Do we really need a Yousuf Pathan type of player? He has the potential to change games single-handedly but they come few and far in between. This is the word-by-word description of Virender Sehwag. Sehwag has earned his place. Maybe we can let Yusuf play his natural game as well and earn his place.
Cricket Tragic Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 Who stopped Pathan from playing his natural game? When Sehwag was inconsistent and not delivering, he was dropped. He has been consistent since his comeback and not really a hit-and-miss player like he was earlier.
achilles Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 The problem is we expect TOOOOOOOOOO much from Pathan. We expect him to play the kind of inngs he did in SA, everytime he comes out to bat. Its kinda ridiculous coz the guy is a more than handy spinner and when he doesn't bat, he bowls well. I think, in an all-round mould, he needs to board the plane to Eng. Look, I know he's missed his chances but there is NO ONE in our national squad who can turn the game around the way Yusuf can.

The fact is we cant have an Afridi in our team because there are many more to take his place. With players like Yuvi and Raina bowling consistantly, i have a feeling he wont be in the team for too long if he continues to play like this
cowboysfan Posted June 12, 2011 Posted June 12, 2011 he had a chance to "turn around" the last game too and his bowling has been very average on pitches assisting the spinners.He is picked as an allrounder(not as a finisher alone).

Rightnow Indian team management believes his strength outweighs his limitations. But i concur he is somewhat like Afridi. You can't rely on him. Infact Bhajji is more reliable these days with big hitting.

BTW, expecting him to socre around 20 runs is not expecting expecting too much, considering that people like Rohit, Kohli sit out games when the seniors come back

If they decide to stick with Pathan for game 5.....then he should open...otherwise...they should put Kohli to open...followed by Badri, Raina, Rohit & Tiwary
