Amit Mishra: I considered quitting 14/6/2011 Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra on Tuesday said being thrown out of the national team despite reasonable performances was pretty hard to digest. Mishra made his ODI debut in 2003 and played only two games before being thrown into wilderness for more than six years. His Test career has been even more dramatic as in his first year (2008) he picked 20 wickets in five matches against Australia and England only to be ignored later. "I once took seven wickets and scored a half-century against Bangladesh in a Test match. But I was promptly dropped in the next game," said Mishra. The leg-spinner, who has picked nine wickets at an average of 17.00 in the ongoing series against West Indies, said there was a time when he was considering calling it a day. Mishra said: "I wish no cricketer goes through what I have in my career." "But for my family, who supported me on and Ranbir Mahendra (HCA president) I would have hung my boots long ago." With Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh being an integral part of the Indian team, Mishra still felt that he was being treated unfairly. "I just let out my frustration on a cricket ball. I bowled and bowled and bowled. During matches, in nets and many a time alone. I worked on my leg-spinners, drifters, googly, variations in pace, degree of spin, everything," said the 28-year-old, who has more than 400 first-class wickets to his name. However, being part of the national team once again Mishra feels that picking wickets is the only way to cement your place. "Economy is alright but wickets matter more to me. I hope he does play in test team ...cause it will give variety to our ordinary attack. He has capability & skills to get vital break through, but needs more confidence and support...Alas our selectors can still MAKE or BREAK a career!

Mishra taking a dig at MSD there. Not sure if this is the right time to talk about all that.. The match where he took 7 wickets and scored 50 runs was the 1st test vs BD. Ojha had been our 2nd spinner along with Bhajji for the last series vs SL before that. MSD did not play the 1st test , Viru led, Ojha was inexplicably dropped, Mishra came in for that test, took 7 wickets and scored 50+ runs. MSD returned for the next test, Mishra was dropped , Ojha was picked and Mishra did not play a test after that. There were lot of specualtions in the media about Sehwag-MSD rift. Thank god those days are gone and we did not suffer much due to those rumours. Mishra though should have also talked about his own fitness in the last 12-18 months. He was bowling rubbish, had become fat and was justificable replaced by Ojha. Now he is back to a better fitness , is bowling well so logically should be our 2nd spinner in tests.

Well if he continues his form then he can be a good bet in the England test series. We all know that the English are huge bunnies to leg spinners. But this is again highly impropable because Bhajji would be the front line spinner there behind 3 seamers.

r u sure he did not play another game after that ? after bagla tour i guess he was played against south africa were he took just 4 wickets from 2 test match (3 inn played) only time he was dropped last time was on sa tour

I get a feeling selectors and Dhoni will make sure he does so after the series :haha: Based on this performance probably Harbhajan was right in saying he's the no. 1 spinner in India. With competition like Mishra and Piyush "Confidence" Chawla sure he's our no. 1 spinner :hysterical: Pretty damning for us that our best spinners are actually Raina and Yuvraj.
