I would have rather preferred an extra team from England or some other nation other than India/Australia/South Africa? 3 IPL teams are already most from any nation and to make it 4. It won't look like champions league at all. More like mini-IPL.

There are only 3 IPL teams with auto berth. 4th will only get if they are better than the winners of a bunch of other leagues. They just want to get more teams in and make everyone happy, hence the qualifier, and while they are at it, might as well throw in an IPL team in that qualifier to get TV ratings.
